Thanks for that. I have just had checks run by a few companies to check that we are not an open relay so I know this is secure. I think I have switched the tracking on but can you confirm the steps? Do you know if there is a program that can sit on the server and generate thousands of mails?

I have tried redefining the schedule to run from 08.00 to 18.00 with 2 hourly backups. This has run correctly up to and including the 16.00 backup but now the schedule is disabled again.

Having done all that and got the backups running it is still cancelling the schedule after the 17.00 transaction log backups. There is nothing in the SQL Logs, the maintenance plan history or the Event Viewer to explain why it is stopping. The 17.00 backup seems to have run fine.

I am currently running a daily maintenance plan which involves backing up the transaction logs every 2 hours between 07.00 and 19.00. For some reason every day the plan fails at 17.00 with the following message in event viewer. It doesn't matter what time I restart the Plan it always fails on...

Under Tools | Notification Setup you need to remove the alerts that are set in there. Within the actual job properties on the advanced tab you need to uncheck the box that says 'eject media when job completes'.
