Do you mean the "CPU Clock Ratio" or "CPU Clock"?
If you mean lowering 400 to 333 (how?), wouldn't this slow down the whole PC?
On that P42 are these statements:
"K8 CPU Clock Ratio
Default Set CPU clock ratio to default. (Default value)
x4 800MHz~x10 2000MHz Set CPU clock ratio from x4 800MHz...
A fairly long time ago I emailed Gigabyte Taiwan to ask about this problem...
Because no reply had arrived, I searched for and found the Gigabyte forums (one in the UK, one in Germany) mentioned in my last post. There's been no helpful response from these either, so in effect I'd given up on...

I finally got around to updating the BIOS, which is now version FG dated 2006/07/05, the latest available according to Gigabyte.
Sadly, this made no difference at all: as soon as I insert 3x 1GB modules, the "second OK beep" returns.
I've spent some time looking at a couple of Gigabyte forums...

Thanks for those wise words, BadBigBen. Regarding what the beeps sound like, the simple answer is that the twin-beep beeps sound exactly like the 'BIOS OK' beep repeated twice and there's no sign (or sound!) of beeps of different duration. Also, I reckon the period between the two beeps, if they...
Thanks for the info & encouragement. I've decided to give flashing the BIOS a go, but only in a couple of months' time after investing in a laptop as a second PC. Once that's up & running I won't be so concerned about killing the main PC!
I'll post the results here when everything's done & dusted.
OK, goombawaho, thanks! Just in case I'm even more stupid than you might think possible and the flashing goes wrong, what's the recovery path? Carry PC to a repair shop?
goombawaho:
I'm a bit wary of updating the BIOS because of the conflicting info as described below, added to which I've never done a BIOS update in my life and this is my one & only PC (so I can't afford to kill it)...
- I have a Gigabyte GA-K8VT800 Rev. 2.0 m/b with Socket 754. The Gigabyte...
I have been using the setup described below for a very long time, the only significant recent addition (apart from a nice new Lenovo 2440x 24" widescreen monitor with LCD backlight) is the addition of 2GB to the previous somewhat sparse 1GB of RAM, but sad to say that's the reason behind this...
I'm glad to hear that you're happy with your MS product, but probably the one you have and its environment differ from mine. Maybe I should have quoted the beginning of the old thread:
<My Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 700 worked fine until recently, when the keyboard was suddenly no...

This is in reality an additional post to the above closed thread of the same name... I recently accidentally found out how to fix the problem discussed May-July 2007 just in case anybody might like to know even after all this time (particularly kestrel1 who did his best to help...
Hallo again kestrel1...
You asked if I've tried a repair install of Win2k; I don't want to do this unless it's absolutely necessary because of the mass of stuff inc. updates I'd lose.
Having installed ERUNT, ERDNT & NTREGOPT from http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/ I can now...
I'm back. Other bits of my life had to go on...
I'm hoping to avoid a re-install of Win2K and I've no interest in upgrading to XP, so I'd like to fix my problem if at all possible.

Removed Intellitype 6.1 via Add/Remove, manually deleted Intellitype 5.2 in Win Explorer and rebooted, installed Intellitype 6.1 and rebooted: no change to drivers as detailed on 28 May and keyboard worked (because no hub). Plugged hub into PC, rebooted: keyboard didn't work. Plugged Receiver...
Re the mouse short battery life, I moaned to the store from which I purchased the MS Wireless Optical Desktop 700 and even showed them the 6-month battery life claim on boxes still on the shelf, but they insisted this was nonsense. They claimed only a (particular?) Logitech wireless mouse...
Thanks for your continuing interest!
I don't know either whether the mouse uses less USB power than the keyboard, but I do know that Bill Gates' claims that the batteries will last 6 months in his Wireless Optical Desktop 700 is a joke (like most of his software). In the keyboard yes, in the...
According to 'your' CPU calulator app (the settings for which I also had to do a fair bit of guesswork), you're absolutely right to suspect my PSU and I wish I'd thought to specify a beefier one, but I'm not convinced it's the culprit because of the following facts...
- My system as previously...
