The majority of the users with the problem don't have SP2 on their machines yet. I will setup a test machine with SP2 to see if this corrects the issue.
Thanks,
Kenny
Nothing was changed from the configuration other than the domain name. I have tried removing the drive but that hasn't worked yet either.
The utility didn't work either unfortunantly. Thanks for the post though.
Thanks again.
I tried it as an administrator, since they don't have redirected folders, and it still didn't work. Right now none of the machines have any third party software on them. The drive letter stayed the same through the reimaging. Also that reg key isn't there. I originally thought that might be...
We actually redirect the burning folder to another place, but that part works fine. I just tried to erase a disk and it doesn't give me an option since it doesn't recognize the disk. The IMAPI service isn't disabled. The eventlog doesn't show any errors it does have information saying:
The...
Thanks for the reply.
That article describes the registry hack I used to get the recording tab to come back. It recognized the burner then but when I try to burn a cd using XP's builtin utility it doesn't recognize and blank cds.
A couple of months ago we reimaged all of our machines to move them to a new domain and since then our users haven't been able to burn cds using the built in XP burning. They worked fine before, and the setup is the same.
I originally thought that maybe a windows update had caused it, but I...
I had the same problem with installing packages. It said it worked fine but nothing was their. I downloaded Microsoft's Group Policy Management software. When I added software in the User Configuration there is a new checkbox under deployment "Install this application at logon"...
I have a piece of software that I created an MSI for and install on the machines via Group Policy. The program unfortunantly will not run without a bunch of keys in HKCU. To get around this I attempted to create another MSI with the registry entries in it only. I then set it up in Group...
Did anyone ever find a fix to this problem? I'm having the same problem with one of our laptops. I searched through Technet but can't find anything that matches the description.
Thanks in Advance,
Kenny
I have a user that has Outlook hand whenever he adds a folder. It is shown in the task manager as not responding and if you end the task and reopen the new folder is there. If you don't end the task and wait for about 10 to 15 minutes it unhangs and the folder is added. He is using Windows...
Yes and no. When you format it just use the /s switch and it will copy all of the system files necessary to boot to the hard disk. Then install the CD-ROM driver and go from their.
I had an old laptop that would boot of of the CD but after you installed windows it wouldn't recognize it any more. Here is what I had to do to get it to work. Boot off of the Win98 boot disk and format the drive and copy the system files to it. Then reboot the computer. It should come up to...
Have you tried booting the machine without any floppy cable? I'd even unplug it just to make sure. You might try that and see if it boots fine. If it does then I'd say the floppy drive it self is doing something odd to your system.
Hope this helps,
Kenny
This is how we did it. I'm not sure if it is the correct way or not. We install Office 97 on each machine and then remove the executables (ie: word.exe, excel.exe, ...). We then have a share on the network with those files in it. We restrict the number of concurrent users in that share to...
What OS is running on the machine your trying to connect to? If it's NT or 2000 do you have the hard drive set to NTFS? I believe that Windows 98 can't access a NTFS file partition.
Just an idea,
Kenny
Narrowed the problem down a little. I found that it happens when the folder you are browsing (when you click save as, or open) is a network drive. Our default directory is the users network share. If I change that to somewhere on the machine it doesn't happen.
Still haven't found a fix yet...
