First thing I would do is enter the BIOS at startup and sit there for an extended period of time (5-10 minutes). Does the flicker ever occur? If not, doubtful that it's a hardware issue. Another thing you can try is to connect an external display. Connect it so that the laptop display is off and...
Forgot to mention...
It just occurred to me that DisplayPort can be daisy-chained. You can connect up to 4 displays on one connection, which should help save on the cost of cabling. I'm not sure how daisy-chaining reacts at higher distances, but they do make "active" DisplayPort cables that...
Microcode updates can be applied at either the BIOS/UEFI level or within the OS. Every processor has a particular microcode baked into its local ROM. This area cannot be modified or updated. However, during initialization, the CPU has instructions to apply the latest microcode update if a newer...
Not sure why that support page wasn't updated to reflect Win10 support for Sandy Bridge, but it should have been, seeing that it was last reviewed on 2/14/20.
Microsoft added Intel microcode updates for the entire Sandy Bridge line last month...
Late reply, but for anyone else who stumbles across this thread...
One option is to reinvest in something like RapidRun cabling, especially if you're running through the wall:

The older style is "modular" and can carry multiple formats ranging from VGA...
See if this helps:

At the part where it suggests adding the argument "-ExecutionPolicy Bypass", you may actually need more than that. I use "-nologo -executionpolicy bypass -windowstyle hidden -file" when I...

A couple things I would try...
[ol 1]
Update the BIOS firmware to the latest revision from the manufacturer's website.
Update the Intel chipset drivers to their latest release.
[/ol]
If neither solves it, post back with your Dell model along with the types of devices you have plugged into your...
When you run the psexec command, do you get an error?
I tested it without using cmd.exe /c and it works fine for me.

Any chance you are seeing entries in Event Viewer that might lend a clue as to what's going on when it rolls back the changes?
This is a Windows 7 system, correct? It was never upgraded to Windows 8?
Two questions:
1) What prompted you to do the "reinstall"? Were you getting an error message? If so, please let us know what that is.
2) How are you trying to reinstall it, specifically, what steps have you tried?
Without providing this information, you're going to get generalized answers...
I know this is an old thread, but for closure's sake...
First of all, I think many of you misunderstood the OP's question. In task manager, the focus here is on the Applications tab, not the Processes tab. guitarzan's suggestion to use the command line tasklist /v does manage to capture that...
No, it is not normal. A drive with Bitlocker enabled should not have any effect on file size.
What is the total size (capacity) of the external drive?
When you copy other folders/files over, do they exhibit the same issue?
Out of curiosity, what kind of data is being stored in this folder...
So by that logic, Windows XP was poorly written in comparison to Windows 2000 and Windows 98, simply because it couldn't run as fast on the same hardware? I don't think so. The truth is there is a lot more going on in the background with each newer OS release, not to mention more bells and...
Download the Sysinternals Suite if you don't have it already and launch Process Explorer (procexp.exe). This is a lot like task manager in Windows, but it shows you a lot more detail. You might be able to deduce which app(s) are causing the headaches.
Aside from hardware upgrades/replacements...
Wanted to clarify a couple things about the recommendation above...
First, "Wifi Analyzer" is definitely a good recommendation. I've been using it for years, and it is a rock solid way of detecting nearby interference. However, I disagree that you should be selecting channels other than 1, 6...
Looks like individual updates in Windows 7 and 8 are now going to be combined into a single, monthly rollup. Only Pro and Enterprise versions will continue to have some control over them (but it begs the question "for how long?"). Must be part of the plan to get us all to bite the bullet and...
