I have tried two other cables and there is no change. My next step will be to take the drive to a differnet PC. If there are any other suggestions I welcome them. Thanks

I recently purchased a WD 120 GB external USB 2 hard drive, and an Addonics USB 2.0/ firwire card with an NEC chip. The hard drive gets recognized and operates fine when plugged into my pre-existing 1.1 ports, but when plugged in to my new 2.0 ports...it puts my computer into a constant reboot...
I had the same problem but managed to solve it by making sure it authenticated the domain properly.
it may have a bearing on the network logon properties ie.
quick logon or logon and restore connection tabs.
