I have unplugged all the cables before opening the box to add memory. I started the computer without connecting the broadband cable to the network card. It just freezes after windows xp comes up.

I have made some improvement in identifying the problem.
I am able to over come the freeze problem by just removing the network card. I then went on ugrading the memory to 512MB. No problem. My computer is able to recognize the upgraded memory.
Now by putting the card back, it freezes again...

Yes, I created the boot.img for 8.0 using the dd command. I got it by downloading directly from os/i386/images/boot.img, and also tried from the down loaded iso file1. I am getting the same error message.
