HDD controller failure
Rogers Post is correct if the contorller has failed then i would remove the current controller and replace it. If the controller is built in to the MB then disable it in the bios. and add another ISA controller card. Don't forget to diable (IF IT HAS ONE) any of the floppy or serial ports that...- Dunnerb4

Strange, difficult to solve problems with Windows 98
Your best bet is to save what you need and FORMAT but if you can try reinstalling windows and reinstalling any programs you have problems with (overtop the existing programs). Depending what the virus does to files you might have quite a battle ahead of you. Good Luck! Admin...- Dunnerb4

installing win95 from the cd without any cd drivers
Goto www.mitusumi.com dowload the 158.exe ( Any CD Rom ) creat this disk. add folder called MSCDEX. find MSCDEX.EXE on a good machine, copy it to this folder.
