Schedule policy - can't create one for synthetic full backups

I've noticed since posting this that the option was not there for Synth fulls becasue I had choses 'all idata agents' as the type of backup. Of course you can't do synth backups of some types of idata agents so i have to specify which one. Unfortunatly it lists windows 2000, 2003 and 2003 64bit...

Fragmentation on DDO Allocation Policy - anyone used it?

I'm just wondering if anyone has used the fragmentation options in the allocation policy on DDO libraries. Any good/bad experiences here? or advice as to what to set the chunk size to? Armchair Jedi ~ So dense light bends around him ;-)

Schedule policy - can't create one for synthetic full backups

Hi all, I'm trying to set up a schedule policy for synthetic full backups but the only choices given on job type are incremental or full... what gives? I'm running V7 SP4a Armchair Jedi ~ So dense light bends around him ;-)

    Error encountered during backup. Error

Are you running an incremental or full backup?... or a synthetic full?... If its a synthetic full and it can't see the last full backup and subsequent incrementals it might not be bale to do a new backup. Armchair Jedi ~ So dense light bends around him ;-)

    Slow Exchange 2003 Mailbox on v7 sp4a

Hmm.. NOTE! If you run the full backup of your TEMPORARY subclient in order to do the discovery reset trick... make sure you leave it going until its starts to write to media. You haveto let it copmlete the scan completely becore you stop and delete the temproary subclient and re-do the...

failed to record actual creation time in index files

As it turns out - we had E-trust AV real-time scanning running on our Commserve which is where the shared index cache was living. We've disabled that and now it appears to be fine. Armchair Jedi ~ So dense light bends around him ;-)

    Slow Exchange 2003 Mailbox on v7 sp4a

We have about 6000 users on each exchange - manualy doing anything isn't really an option. What i did was create a new test subclient and assigned EVERYTHING to it.. ran a backup so it'd do the discovery... stopped and killed it and then deleted it. Upon running my next backup it re-discovered...

    Slow Exchange 2003 Mailbox on v7 sp4a

Hmm... i've done as planned and created a bunch of subclients based on the actual storage group databases. I took each one, created the new subclients and renamed the last one (the original one) to reflect the change). When i look at the discovery tab i can see all the subclienst aimed at the...

    Slow Exchange 2003 Mailbox on v7 sp4a

Thanks for the info, Commvault support have advise similar methods. Now i'm wondering if i'm better off to set up filters A-C, D-f etc or just break it up by storage group/database. For example our 12000 mailboxes run on 2 servers each server has 3 storage groups and each storage group has 3-4...

    Slow Exchange 2003 Mailbox on v7 sp4a

G’day, We’re experiencing very slow mailbox level backups on our v7 Commserve. We’re getting under 2gb/hr throughput which is pretty ordinary. It’s been going slow for a long time but i just haven’t gotten around to investigating.... till now. Is there a best practices type doco on using...

Experiences with DataMigrator - many problems encountered?

Also beware of file search options that allow to search offline/tapes... i saw someone do it once with windows basic earch and it immediatly went through poking all the stub files and treid to restore the whole of the migrated data. Armchair Jedi ~ So dense light bends around him ;-)

    loss of control process ifind.exe

I had the same problem. It seems that it occured because after installing our clients we'd renamed them (adding a Vm to the front of the client name so they kinda sorted in the gui to separate vm's from normal pc's). What i ended up doing was reverting the name of the client back to the very...

    Data Classifier

More info on this product. Apparently i can't actually use it. Our clustered san's data drives aren't visible to the physical nodes - and classifier will only install on the physical node. Classifier is supposed to work in concert with data migrator - whcih we have installed on the virtual...

    Continuous Data Replication

OK...so I'm experimenting with CDR. So far its been a bit hit and miss. Partly becuase i was trying to make it work on a clustered san (because they said it would work) and now apparently it doesn't. So there's been a bit of installing and uninstalling going on. Now i have it on 2...

    Data Migrator & Opportunistic Locking

I"ve been told by Commvault support that theyahve seen the same problem i'm having with migrator (failing to restore on cut n pastes) on other systems caused by opportunistic locking. Apparently the locking causes delays. They suggest I disable the locking - has anyone else done this?... are...

How do you guys deal with bad tapes?

When you say the tapes are bad... do you mean you're getting hardwrare errors and its only writing say a few GB to a tape that should hold 200gb and then marking it full and moving onto another tape?. We had that problem, which of course meant that with multiple streams running it woudl used...

The media in the drive already has a valid On Media Label

I had this problem. What we'd done was relabel a bunch of media with new barcodes. What we didn't know was that CV writes its own On Media Label to the tape when it read the orginal barcode... so t hey didn't match. And for some reaon i just could NOT get CV to erase or overwrite the oml. So...
