Thanks for all of the comments and ideas. I was able to come up with the password, so the problem is solved... for now. I'll keep this email string handy. Thanks again.

When sending an email in Outlook 2003, I want to be prompted with an option to save the message to any of my email folders. Currently, all sent emails go to my 'sent' box. Periodically, I click/drag sent emails to the desired folders. I'd like to eliminate that latter step.
I know this can...
The "Enter Network Password" dialog box keeps popping up in connection with one of two Outlook 2003, pop-3 email accounts that I maintain on my laptop running XP. I have no clue what the password is. The account was set up for me by a client who wants me to use his domain name -- the client...
Thanks for the responses.
PRPhx - I spent some time on the phone with Fujitsu yesterday, and a tech rep said that OmniPage Pro 15 is a stronger OCR engine than ABBYY FineReader. To me, that translates to less time cleaning-up documents (if the ScanSnap/OmniPage solution is doable). I'd gladly...
Hi folks. I work in a home office with no scanning and no OCR capability. It was recommended that I get a Fujitsu ScanSnap S500 scanner and OmniPage Pro 15 for OCR capabilities. The scanner does not support TWAIN. OmniPage Pro 15 works with any TWAIN-compatible scanner. Each has features...
Problem solved. I had installed a new black ink cartridge. It was a generic cartridge purchased at Office Depot. I exchanged the generic for a 'real' HP cartridge, and it works fine.
Lesson learned!

Hi folks. I've got an HP OfficeJet 710 connected to my Dell Dimension running XP.
This printer hasn't been used much in months. When I tried it recently, it printed nothing on the page -- almost like I was using white ink.
I replaced the black cartridge and cleaned all of the copper parts...
If sending a fake cc: is dishonest, is sending a bcc: also "dishonest"? Stated differently, which is worse:
1. Sending a memo to a person and a "fake cc:" to his/her boss? or
2. Sending a memo to a person and blind-copying his/her boss without their knowledge?
Just curious what you all...
You might contact whoever handles your other insurance needs (car, home, health, life, etc.) for quotes or at least referrals to someone who will quote. You could also ask your friends and employer who handles their insurance too.
Whether or not the $1,500 quote that you got is good or not...
Check with the government office that's issuing the bid. They probably publish the selection criteria which should include definitions or at least narrative descriptions. My experience is that the low bid can still lose if the government believes that the low bidder won't be able to complete...
Every jurisdiction is different. In Pennsylvania (my home state), you would not need a specific business license to run a home computer consulting business. Your state should have all of the info that you need on its website. Here's the corresponding version from PA...
I agree with Ecobb. A lot depends on the amount of risk you are undertaking when you moonlight. Ask yourself what's the worst that can happen if the project fails due to your fault. The greater the potential risk, the more you want to think about incorporating.
In you current capacity, you...
You don't identify the software that you want to write about, but you might also consider contacting the company to see if you would underwrite your project. If your book makes their product more attractive to users, they might help to make all of the arrangements (...and perhaps pay you...
Angie and coryn,
The copyright in software (i.e., ownership of the rights and responsibilities) belongs to the author of the work. If you create a computer program--whether or not you get paid and whether or not you are a sole proprietor, corporation, etc.--you are deemed the owner unless...
So I assume that I need to start talking with a lawyer to write up some contracts. What type of lawyer should I look for?"
** To find a good lawyer, ask your technology-saavy friends who they have used. It's always a good idea to get a personal referral. BTW, you don't need a huge law firm...

I echo the comment that you should consult with a professional about whether and what form of business to choose.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to your questions, but here are some things to consider:
1. How much to pay your sub?
**The rule of thumb I have always followed is to make at least a 20% margin on everything sub-contracted.
2. Do I hide the contractor from my client?
** That depends on...
Great question. Some scary answers. Especially, "I never use a contract".
Expecting that legal forms from a generic website will protect you from liability is like relying on webmd.com to protect you from illness. The disclaimers on legal and medical websites are there for a reason.

The advice to speak with a tax expert is the right answer. I also suggest that you clarify IN ADVANCE the fees that the professional will charge. Ideally, you'll hook up with an adviser who will under-charge for the initial start-up with the hope of keeping your business in the future. You...
If you have an employment agreement that covers your day job, you should check to make sure that you are not violating the terms by moonlighting. If the subject matter (and clients) of your consulting practice overlap with your employer's business, you might have an issue. Don't give your...
