Here my two cents worth. First make such your auto save is set for a reasonable amount to auto save. Change the file extension from .sv$ to .dwg and if you have autosave set for say every 5 mins.. then you won't lose that much drawing. This works better than using the .bak file

RGS-CAD, Yes you can. In Autocad 2000 and 2002 go to File- Ploter manager and setup a raster printer choose the format TIFF and then you can set you plot styles to it and plot to a tiff file.
