I recently found that if I run a purely IP environment my foxpro program can't receive the machine id from the novel server because the ipx compatible transport protocol is gone. Is there anyway around this foxpro library limitation without restoring the ipx protocol?

Have you checked the protocols used on each machine? The culprit may be the ipx/spx compatible transport protocol required for sending the machine id among other things.
It is the HP printer driver causing the problem. Using the post script version or a different compatible HP printer driver will eliminate the problem. The HPLJ 6010 printer driver has the same problem with foxpro 2.6.
