Hi.
I had the same problem on Win2K.
It's still really a mistery for me why this happens.
I solved opening a DOS window, and running the installation from DOS.
Seems like the java program doesn't start from windows, only from DOS...
If somebody finds the answer please...
Good luck

The error number is TNS-12638, and the Error Messages manual says "Enable tracing to determine the exact error".
This error is shown trying to connect from sql plus from a W2000 client of my network, when I log in using the administrator account from the Windows 2000 central server.

The package STANDARD (that belongs to the user SYS) is INVALID, there are a lot of reasons why this package turned to this state.
Use this to check the INVALID packages:
connect sys/passwd@yourdb
select object_name from obj where status = 'INVALID' and object_type = 'PACKAGE';
There, you have...
Check the Oracle documentation, I believe Oracle 9i Database Server needs Windows 2000 Server, not Proffesional.
You can check this in the installation guide, in the system requirements section.
I will tell you the ORA message number on monday. I'm off on vacations now. Sorry I didn't include the message number, my mistake.
Thanks for your interest.

I agree, Access is an awful front end. But it works if you use odbc, and link the Oracle 9i tables from Access.
I would recommend that you consider choosing some other and more powerful front end.
Try Oracle Forms or Visual Basic.

Go to http://docs.oracle.com/cd_a91202/901_doc/nav/docindex.htm
In this site (docs.oracle.com) you can find whatever you need to learn about Oracle 9i, 8, 7, etc.
Be ready to read a lot, good luck.
I have Oracle 9i Database and 9iAS working ok now.
Several computers running different applications connect ok to the db.
I installed the Oracle client on a windows 2000 using the local administrator user, and when I try to connect with sql plus, says: "user credentials do not correspond...
You say you were trying to upload a 'flat file' with sql loader. Be careful with decimal numbers, if they are in text format (like 1234.56) you have to use DECIMAL EXTERNAL.
Hope this works for you.
Hi.
I've just installed Oracle 9i client on a W2000 Professional and when I try to connect to the database I receive this message: TNS-12638 Credential retrieval failed. The error messages book says: Enable tracing to determine exact error. I don't know how to turn tracing on.

I am writing a program in VB and Oracle using OO4O.
My program tries to add records in a database.
I made a couple of programs using the syntax mydyn.executesql(sentSQL) and it works ok, but now I'm trying to use the methods of the dynaset.

How do you "destroy" a Dynaset after creating it?
I want to reuse the dynaset variable, and I don't want to have garbage in this variable at the time of re-creating it.
Thanks in advance
These errors are caused by the INVALID status of the packages and package bodies that you are trying to execute.
Check the status of the packages owned by SYS and SYSTEM users from SQL*Plus:
connect sys/password@mydb as sysdba;
select owner, object_name
from dba_objects
where status =...
I'm using dynasets in VB with OO4O.
I have no problems using them, but I don't know how to 'destroy' a dynaset and create it again.
This is the situation:

do
artNumber = NextArtToProcess() ' some function ---
SQLsent = "select art, qty from stock " & _...
I'm still trying to make that work, but it doesn't.
I'm using bounding the text box to this expression:
DLookup("Art_Name","[Stock]","[Art_Reference] = " & "'" & [Me]![Line_Art_Ref] & "'")
Perhaps this expression is incorrect, it shows an...
I tried that JamesMeadlock, but if I use an unbound text box, it shows the same description in each line of the subform (the subform appears as many times as lines it has).
And there's another problem, when I open the form (the main one), it doesn't show anything in the unbound text box.
It only...
