I've deleted the "Pictures" folder and can't get it back...

Hey, thanks for the ideas. Somehow (and I've really no idea at all how this happened) the folder has repaired itself. It may have been a Windows Update that fixed it, or one of the updates purged a cache or something similar, but the "Pictures" folder was completely "magical" when my computer...

I've deleted the "Pictures" folder and can't get it back...

I could do another clean install, but I'd much rather not... What's the registering of that DLL do, exactly? And what's an "Elevated Prompt"? Like, the command prompt? Haha. Never heard the term before, is all. I'll give it a shot. www.offtone.com

I've deleted the "Pictures" folder and can't get it back...

Setting to "Pictures and Video" doesn't do anything. There's something that makes those folders special, and I've managed to forever break whatever that was... If you right-click "Pictures" in either Public or Default, you'll notice there isn't a "Location" tab on there, either. I even created...

I've deleted the "Pictures" folder and can't get it back...

I can re-create it in C:\Users\Aaron, but it doesn't have the "magic" that the old one used to. For one, it doesn't have the special icon. Secondly, I can't right-click it and move its source location like I can with Music, Documents, Downloads, etc. (which is what I trying to do in the first...

HTTP uploads are timing out on any site... Unless uploading puny file

That didn't do it either, I'm afraid. I've noticed that if I disconnect my connection and reconnect, then try to visit, say, "google.com" in Firefox before the connection is fully up, I'll get a 404 from then until I restart I browser. That is, even after the connection has come up, Firefox (or...

HTTP uploads are timing out on any site... Unless uploading puny file

I don't have any anti-virus on any of the machines on the network. Firewalls are all off. I bypassed the router and it's still doing it. Now get this: Right now, near as I can figure, I can't upload .doc files greater than 25kb in size. Everything else seems to be working right now. In Internet...

HTTP uploads are timing out on any site... Unless uploading puny file

Didn't fix it. I've got it on "Automatic Configuration - DHCP". Right now, I can upload a 25kb .doc file but not a 26kb file of the same type, in the same directory. So 25kb appears to be the cutoff. At least, right now anyway. I'm pretty close to calling my ISP on this one. Nothing has changed...

HTTP uploads are timing out on any site... Unless uploading puny file

I've reset the router. Firewalls are off. I've fixed a slight error in my hardcoded TCP/IP settings (DNS server was pointing to the same one the router was; now it's pointing to the router). However, I'm not sure if that was it, but something fixed it on my computer. I did the same on my...

HTTP uploads are timing out on any site... Unless uploading puny file

No, the disks are fine. This is happening on all computers on the network; not just mine. Thanks, though. www.offtone.com

    Vista Ultimate & Graphics Cards

This is just an assumption, but it's grounded on common sense I think: MCE wasn't really intended for the masses. Or at least, not nearly the same masses as XP Pro. Vista on the other hand is intended for use by everyone, and the differences between the editions aren't quite the same as those...

HTTP uploads are timing out on any site... Unless uploading puny file

Probably the most bizarre problem I've had to troubleshoot in a long while. Basically it's exactly as the title says: If I try to upload a file, say an attachment on gmail or to a blog, I get a "connection reset" error. Unless, however, that file is very small. A 35kb file failed, but a 7kb...

Where would I find A7N8X-E USB 2.0 drivers?

I've managed to get it to high speed by going into the device manager and uninstalling everything with "USB" in its name. Then I rebooted. XP detected the devices, rebooted again, and it's fast now. Turns out the drivers come with SP1 and up, and somewhere in the past, Microsoft dictated that...

Where would I find A7N8X-E USB 2.0 drivers?

They do, but their All-In-One doesn't have anything about USB in it... I'll try to alert ASUS about it, but I get the feeling my message won't be read. www.offtone.com

Where would I find A7N8X-E USB 2.0 drivers?

I tried that, but it's not a USB driver at all. It's some "Color Icon Utility" (which I guess is why it's found under Utilities on that page, and not Drivers). :( www.offtone.com

Where would I find A7N8X-E USB 2.0 drivers?

They're hooked up properly, and using them works fine (but they're slow.) I'm sure I just need drivers, but I can't find them and don't know where to look. I suppose there could be some other setting I'm missing, but drivers have to a key component to the success of USB2, no? www.offtone.com

Where would I find A7N8X-E USB 2.0 drivers?

Nothing of the sort in my device manager... Standard OpenHCD USB Host controller (x2) General Purpose USB... I have a "Universal Serial Bus controll" under "Other devices" too. It's not very 'high speed' at all. www.offtone.com

Where would I find A7N8X-E USB 2.0 drivers?

I've an ASUS A7N8X-E, and it has 6 USB 2.0 ports (4 built in, connections for two more) and I can't get them transferring at high speed. I have a 2.0 card reader which works much much faster on my brother's laptop than on my computer. I've installed the USB 2.0 drivers on the MoBo's driver CD to...

Telling my monitor to go to standby via a shortcut?

No, no. The CAT-5 isn't speaker wire... I've got cat-5 lines running from my router (in the closet) and wires from my speaker satellites running to the back 3 speakers. Now I'm going to be added coax to the mix, as my TV will need cable :P www.offtone.com

Telling my monitor to go to standby via a shortcut?

Ah, heh. Well I suppose if it doesn't hurt it too much, I won't worry about it. But I'm still going to move my TV away from it. My last monitor is in the shop right now with some serious display issues, and I'm worried my TV may be the culprit. That, or my tiny LED alarm clock which, when near...

Telling my monitor to go to standby via a shortcut?

Causes just as much strain? Perhaps on the capacitors, but when I turn it on cold, it makes a "boiiiiing" sound as the screen degauses (that sort of sound). When it wakes from standby, it's silent. I will try to devise a plan to move my television to another wall. Trouble is that my cable line...
