    restricting and giving messenger permissions

    I figured it out!!! you have to install the firewall client on the machines you want to use messenger on. The other ones u dont have to use the client. Messenger wont work unless it has the client. Same for yahoo. Have you rebooted yet? :)

    try using just the netbeui protocol on both machines. netbeui configures itself. You can get the protocol off of the cd. not sure of the exact directory. If they still dont see each other then it could be a bad nic. If your using a hub or a crossover cable then it could be one of those.
