Thanks all for your valuable input.
The issue is can I have two different ip ranges one public and one private on a router with one ethernet port. I am under the impression that it is not possible.
I currently have 100% static IP. I would like to go mix 75% dynamic/25% static. I am under the impression that in order for my dynamics to route to the static I would need a interface for both segments. To my knowledge only one segment can be setup with one port on my wic.
If I want to use dhcp and static ip, does it mean that I will need to obtain a t2 wic card. One port for the dhcp and the other for static.
option 2: setup rras on w2k server and pray.
Thanks for you help,
Clarification--I am attempting to use RRAS on a windows 2000 server. Do I still need to enable dhcp relay on my cisco 2600 router.
the specific error is
LAN: DHCP server unreachable.
If I change the ip to static in the new network I can ping both routers. It is only when I try dhcp. I am not sure what udp helppers are.
We presently have one static publice network. I would like to implement a second private network using dhcp. I have a cisco 2600 router with two serial and one ethernet cards. The problem is I cannot get the dhcp to clients to obtain an address. I have the default gateway set to a server 2000 rras.
