    Removing SP4 back-up files

Well I installed it on the 17th, and to date have noticed no differences whatsoever! it was installed on a fresh install of W2K that was done 5 days ago and so there was no prep as such because all my data was on a separate partition. (I dual boot W2K and W xp....)

    Removing SP4 back-up files

I've installed SP4 which (touch wood!) seems to be working OK. I took the "backup files" option in case I wanted to un-install it. When I decide NOT to un-install, where do I find the backup files in order to delete them to free up disk space? thanks

    Log Off user problem

I have 2 users set up. We are finding that when one user logs off, with the other user logged on, that the welcome screen does not appear. We get a black screen with a flashing white underscore cursor. I have to reboot the machine in order to get out of this. I have plenty of RAM, 512 MB, and it...

    ICS problem on W2K

I have a small peer-to-peer network (W2K to XP). If I use the W2K macine to connect to the Internet, (ISDN through a USB TA) and enable ICS on the W2K machine, how can I make the XP machine control the connection on the W2K machine? Is this possible?

Internet Connection Icon won't display in Systray

The major problem with this is that without the icon in the systray, and the detail in the connection window saying it's not connected, is that I can't actually disconnect without either invoking a program that will allow me to disconnect, or use Task Manager to stop the process. (What process...

Internet Connection Icon won't display in Systray

OK so I can do without the connection icon in the systray, but why does the detail of the connection in "Show all Connections" window say it's disconnected when it's actually connected? Surely there's something wrong there? It never used to AFAIK.

Internet Connection Icon won't display in Systray

Thanks for the quick response! Unfortunately, that's made no difference. the "Show Network Icon" is unchecked, and the network connection icon does not show in the systray, even though the network (p 2 p) is up and running. The "Show internet connection icon" IS checked and...

Internet Connection Icon won't display in Systray

I have a clean install of XP Pro. The only patches I have installed are IE6 Cumulative and Blaster. I run Avast AV and kerio Firewall. I have only one Internet Dial-up Connection set up, through a USB TA. Suddenly, maybe yesterday or the day before, without any settings being altered, the...

    Customize View in Organizer 5.01

I use the View-Day Planner view in Organizer. Is there a way of customizing it so that it shows future events (for the week, say) as well as just the day information? thanks

    Win XP upgrade

I think that the two disks are exactly the same, apart from the price and that the Upgrade disk looks for proof of an upgrade path. If you do a clean install with the upgrade disk, it doesn't copy anything from the old os, does it? So the CD must have exactly the same data on it as the full! (I...

Multiboot 2x WinXP Home in 2 primary partitions

Can I ask why you have done this in the first place? I can't see any advantage or reason at all in doing that!

    Dynamic disk on laptop?

this is very strange. I have two laptops. A Toshiba portege 7020 that had a 2GB Active partition and a 4GB NTFS partition with a clean install. In Disk management under Storage, when I right-click Disk0, there was NO option to upgrade to dynamic disk. My other laptop, a Tecra 9000 with 10GB...

    Dynamic disk on laptop?

I'm doing MCSA on laptops 'cos I live in a VERY small cottage with no room for desktops. Is there a way of fooling W2K into thinking it's on a desktop instead of a laptop so I can do the practice with dynamic disks? thanks Gordon

    Can't stop USB Device

I didn't install anything for either of these - W2K automatically recognised the devices.

    Can't stop USB Device

I suddenly can't stop or eject a USB device (specifically Zip and Floppy). I get the message: "The generic device cannot be stopped right now. Please try again later". AFAIK the device is NOT in use. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? (Toshiba Tecra 9000 upgraded from W98se) Thanks

Excel 2000: Adding & Subtracting Time

If you sum the column, then right click on the total and choose format cells and then time, there is a format which reads 37:30:55 - this seems to do what you want.

    Admin vs User Profile

Surely it's not good security practice to run a workstation on an every-day basis as Administrator, particularly if the workstation has constant internet access? Unix certainly frowns on running as root and not as a user.
