Are you sure you:
1) installed for correct version of IIS 4 or IIS 5?
2) didn't install the Alpha Version by mistake?
I have a similar issue. NT 4.0 sp6a using latest mdac from MS. Sometimes it goes for 3-4 days and then BAM....w3svc hangs to the point that I have to reboot.

you need to own abc.com first!
you cannot, in any way, make def.com into def.abc.com
you need abc.com to do that
