Issues with DC after Windows Update restart

Hi Paul, Thanks for your reply. There were multiple errors under dcdiag, but I believe some of them were due to services having not started on the server. The good news is (I hope) that the server now seems to be stable. I took it off the network and booted it and it came online much faster...

Issues with DC after Windows Update restart

Having installed the latest Windows Updates on our 2003 Domain I am now having multiple issues with our main DC. The other 2 DC's seem to have installed these updates with no issue. The initial reboot occurred at 20:30, we then have a string of KDC errors in the event log, ID 7. The server...

Computer restarts over and over and over ??

If you boot to XP CD you could try a Repair option which will reinstall all the core XP files, this has worked for me in the past. The option is 'R' and is available just before you get to the installtion menus. Please note if you do this that any Windows updates will then have to be reinstalled.

Exchange 2003 Mailbox Store missing (private information store)

Tried these solutions. No luck, still no Information Store. We are leaning towards the fact that this may be a permissions issue, but has anyone ever seen the information store dissapear due to permissions?

Exchange 2003 Mailbox Store missing (private information store)

2 days ago our exchange server fell over and reebooted itself. We're still looking into why it fell over but that isn't the main issue. After rebooting it hung at "applying computer settings" and we discovered that the service "Microsoft Exchange Information Store" was hanging in a "starting"...

    USB Key default drive mapping

I don't think ms will ever fix this problem, you need to change you application to look to another drive, not an easy solution but the only solution.

Windows 2k Local Computer Policy Editor

I have written a policy on a workstation using Group Policy MMC that I want to copy across to 50 other workstations but as far as I can see I can only Export a list of the settings and not the actual settings. Does anyone know of a way around this problem without using group policy on a domain...

Computer naming problem / domain problem

We are running W2K server with W2K workstations, using AD for both the users and computers. We only recently wrote a policy for the computers as previously we had a product called winsuite that we wanted to move away from. For this reason we wrote a policy that hides the computer name and limits...

    GPO Temporary Internet Files

We also lock things down pretty much in the same way as you but without Ranger - we just use GP. Deep Freeze is more just another line of defence and stops the machines getting into a state where they are becoming sluggish and need reghosting. It also allows us to kill any virus instantly just...

    GPO Temporary Internet Files

Hi Bazzert, I'm not sure about the first question but with regards to your second question I also work in a school where this was an issue and all the pupils use the same profile. We found a piece of software called Deep Freeze which allows you to ghost over a given suite then "freeze" it down...

Using CConnect to limit concurrent logons

Hi, We've just installed cconnect from the w2k administrator pack onto our SQL server, we've also installed the adm into group policy. We followed the instructions to create a new database and also create a logon for cconnect but when trying to run the administrator program it will not accept...

    USB Key default drive mapping

I have to agree with Kevin, we have over 450 workstations and to change the mappings on all of these would be extremely time consuming! At the moment all our mapped drives are from M: onwards so that should not be an issue. But when USB keys are inserted Windows is skipping drive E: sometimes...

    USB Key default drive mapping

We have a problem on my network, we are running W2K desktops throghout the school, we limit access to certain drives and my computer. When a user logs on and inserts a USB key sometimes it doesn't map to E: (Which is always the next available letter) it instead maps to F: or G:, I can't find any...

Unplug Eject Hardware Shortcut (USB Keys)

Hi Shrubble, We have got it set up so that the "unplug" icon is in the system tray, but because of GP we don't allow access to the system tray icons due to security risks. Any other ideas greatfully received!! Cheers, Karl

Unplug Eject Hardware Shortcut (USB Keys)

I have a GP which disables access to the control panel, however this stops people being able to eject their USB pen devices safely. Is there a way to get around this without giving them access to the Control Panel? and if so how? Cheers, Karl p.s I have found a way to make a shortcut to the...

    Program errors

I have seen errors like this before, it could be the software has become corrupt in which case the above would be a good option (it may be worth uninstalling them first and doing a clean install) this should cure the problem OR it may be that some windows files have become corrupted, in which...

    Limiting access to shared drives

The problem that you have here is that everyone is an administrator. By default administrators can normally access pretty much everything. Unless windows can determine who is who it cannot limit access. I would suggest that you need to give people their own log ons and separte the users so you...

    Setting default printers

Ok heres a question for the experts: When we have installed 2 printers in a netwrok suite, we set the one we want as the default printer under the administrator account. When a user logs on in most cases they have the other printer set as default. I didn't think that the default printer was...
