I have a great problem. This one has had me stumped for a few months. OS: Windows XP SP2 (latest patches) RAM: 1-2GB depending on machine BIOS: Lastest from vendor Browser Version: IE6 SP1 & IE7 (fully patched) Basically this is what happens. IE will randomly freeze. There are no steps that...

    Easy way to create whitelists

Does anyone know of an easy way to create a white list group policy? I have a stock image that I use, but it seems like a lot of work to add each program manually even if I do have a dump of all programs installed. Is there a way to dynamically create a policy?

IE 7 and OE 6 balking on boot up

Does IE7 work in safe mode? What other programs are running in the background? Use msconfig to disable all start up items and see if that helps. What errors (if any) are in your event logs?

    Cannot Boot

    1. Slave your drive out to another machine and back up all data. 2. Run checkdisk and do a remote registry repair using a bootable cd. 3. If the computer still does not boot try running SpinRite. 4. If that fails try and ghost your drive and buy a new hard drive and drop your image onto the...

    Remove Protocol From Network Adapter

Linney, I have read that article. I used that as a launching pad for my script. Unfortunately, it does not show how to remove the actual protocol from the adapter. My script takes care of everything else.

    Remove Protocol From Network Adapter

That does not work with Vista. I should have made that clear before. I just want to uncheck the box. I do not want to un/install the protocol.

Very slow disk access (repeating). Unusable. From boot onwards.

I forgot to mention. Check your event logs. Sometimes drive errors will be thrown in the logs.

Very slow disk access (repeating). Unusable. From boot onwards.

    1. Backup all of your data ASAP. 2. Run check disk from a bootable CD. 3. Ghost your drive if possible. 4. Run Spin-Rite on your drive. 5. If Spin-Rite does not fix your drive go buy a new drive and drop your Ghost image on the new drive.

    Remove Protocol From Network Adapter

Does anyone know what registry keys need to be modified to remove a particular protocol from a network adapter. E.G. uncheck TCPIPv6. I found some of them, but when I go to the network settings the box is still checked off.

    Hyperlinks

Awesome! It was so simple. I tried referencing everything except the actual Word instance. Doh!

    Hyperlinks

I have written a simple script to dynamically create Outlook signatures for a group. I have everything working properly, but I cannot seem to insert a hyperlink to the web or email. I am using VBScript to create an instance of Microsoft Word. I then populate the Word document with all of the...

No Audio For Embedded Media Player

Artspret, Thanks for the help. K-Lite solved my problem. It looks like there were some codecs that were not registred properly. I thought Cole2k would have caught it, but it didn't. Thanks!

No Audio For Embedded Media Player

I will try this out tomorrow. Cole2k worked on one of the machines, but I could not reproduce the results on the other machines.

No Audio For Embedded Media Player

Linney, Thanks for all of your help. I have done all of that and more. I will keep on looking. A regular install of the codec pack does not break anything so it is something in the full install.

No Audio For Embedded Media Player

Install the latest version of XP Codec pack and do a full install of all of the audio and vido codecs. You do not need the Media player. Then you will be in the same boat as me. Still have not found much on the topic.

An example is any of the video off of CNN.com. Basically anything that plays in the media player rather than the flash or real windows.

Thanks for the help Linney. I still cannot seem to crack this one. I will keep digging.

No Audio For Embedded Media Player

I am familiar with most of those steps, but that is not the solution I am looking for. System Restore is disabled on this machine and SFC came up blank. It is just a codec issue somewhere.
