7.1 and the release confirms that it is for the PowerPC with the chrp processor. It gives the boot prompt when booting from CD2 but that is where it stops.
Try using a full spec. null modem cable as I have known in the past for this to cause a problem with some of the signals on the pins. It works ok within the firmware prompt but for some reason it has problems when accessing AIX
Has anyone been able to load SuSE 7.1 onto an RS/6000 I have booted from the second CD and it gives the boot: prompt but then halts. If you press enter at this point it comes back with unable to load kernel memory. Any pointers to being able to load Linux onto this F50 would be appreciated.
Yes even I remember the RT/6150 running version 2 AIX. That was the first AIX I used. Currently due to time constraints on recovery of the 3.2.4 machine I have had to abandon the standard recovery. What I have had to do is to build the system as 3.2.5 and selectivly restore the files to run...
The Fk5 Option does not work on the 530 it is a MCA machine and this function is done by the key on the front panel being moved to the sevice position. Have you managed to get any boot cd's yet ?
I am trying to recover an RS/6000 380 (Ugh!). It is running AIX 3.2.4 and I have attempted to boot from the release media and diskettes created on the live system but none of them seem to boot. The system does the POST checks and continues to the 299 LED before blanking the display and that is...

I am having problems getting more than 6 tapes checked into the library via the I/O slot. The tapes can be moved manually into the library and then checked into the library as volumes to be accessed. The problem seems to be getting more than 6 tapes from the IO slot. Any Ideas !

I have setup a RS/6000 C20 with a graphics display and I ahve loaded all of the 5.0L doccumentation and run the configassist to setup the online doccumentation. I am having problems with the Netscape communicator no finding the server name defined. Can anyone point me in the right direction for...
Use the mksysb command to backup the root volume group (mksysb -i /dev/rmtx). This will create a bootable tape which will also backup the standard jfs filesystems in the root volume group which you can restore files from. External volume groups will need to be backed up using the savevg command...
