What services would need to be shut down on a 2000 member server so that it does not interfere with any DC's on a NT driven network (beside DHCP)? Is there a reference (Q article)that I can look into that would list them?
Thanks
Dave
A good friend has a Linksys BFESR41 Cable/DSL router that she just purchased. For some reason it would not take an IP from the DHCP pool. They ended up putting a static on it and worked fine. Now she is getting dropped constantly. She is bypassing the router all together now. HW issue?

In order to push a recent patch from Microsoft I need to determine what OS a workstation is running within a logon type script prior to running the patch. What is the cmd line to determine what OS the box is running? From there I can do a If Then... Any Help is appreciated.
I went into safe mode and ran defrag and scandsk. Checked to see if the hardware was all working (no conflicts). The box did reboot in safe mode as well. From what the owner said - the reboot is random and I agree. I left the box on and it rebooted while trying to open an app then while defrag...
I am working on a friend's pc (win ME), it seems to reboot at random times. I have checked all hardware and looked at any services running in the background but I can't see anything. I don't want to reload the box, I don't think that will fix the problem. Any ideas? Other than the reboot...
I am looking for a SMS Query that will change the local administrator password to an NT/2k workstation. We have too many users that know the long used password and it has come time to change them.
Thank you.
Is there a way to reroute the log files to a separate server? We had some security issues and would like to have them moved from all servers to one central server dedicated to log files.
Thank you.
As the Security Manager for my large organization, I am looking for a "Sniffer" that would track inappropriate Administrator process's (ie recreating accounts, accessing mailboxes, logon locations) as well as possible intrusion attempts from the inside. We utilize SMS as well as the...
I have a file (a pst) that was encrypted. After installing a digital certificate for email then rebooting, I no longer had access to the file (access denied). I removed all privilages and added "everyone" to Full Privilages, yet I can no longer remove the encryption.
I have backed up...
Agreed, bring up new server, even have an MX connector added for it with a lower priority, and let it get stabilize. Then move your mailboxes over. Once that is done, bring down your first exchange.
Thank you, we are (still) waiting on our servers to arrive. I will let you all know how it went. Total of 7 servers to be replaced so it is bound to be loads of fun.
I am about to upgrade all servers in our network. Is it possible to build a bdc, promote it to a pdc, and once the original is taken off line, rename it to the original pdc? Will it cause conflicts at all?
thank you.

...specific domain. There is no consistancey to it. The returned error to the sender is referencing my exchange server "operation timed out at *myserver@mydomain.com* (exceeded the 12 hour limit) Is this something on this side or the far side? My next step is to delete the account and...
The NDR sounds right, we are not running OWA so that pretty much rules that out. Is there any way to track the return reciept's or the read reciept's? Thank you for the tip.

I have emails heading out of my Queues that do not have a return email. It is listed as <> rather than <user@email.com>. Is there anyway to track the reason or the origin on it?
Thank you.
I know I may be in the wrong group to ask this question, but I am using other sources as well. I am running both IIS and Domino web servers. I am in the process of pushing the IIS for production, but I am in need of a comparsion of the two. I am used Domino's inability to run asp's without...
I have a domino web server and I would like to use asp's on it. I will not be touching notes databases at all. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can accomplish this? thank you in advance...
