What's the right way to reset a port that hit cp-limit?
I had accidentally setup a network loop, but have since corrected the problem. The only issue is that the ports that were downed due to cp-limit won't come back up again. As such, I have moved the GBICs to new ports and it's working again...
I think I see the problem. The dot1dTpFdbPort table on the 5510 doesn't specify a VLAN. With our sun hosts, we use the same MAC address on different VLANs. In the dot1dTpFdbPort table, each MAC address has only one entry - where it could have multiple entries, one per VLAN.
On Cisco switches...
I'm missing a lot of addresses in the SNMP dot1dTpFdbPort table on my 5510. It's running 4.1.0.5 software.
Basically, I can see the address when I run from the switch:
"show mac-address-table vid 123"
but when I run from a host:
"snmpwalk switchname dot1dTpFdbPort"
I'm missing many MANY...
There is a running issue for HA and SMLT on the 8600s and the 3.7.x line of code. I'm running 3.7.4 and have disabled HA because of this reported instability. It was supposed to be fixed in 3.7.8, 3.7.9 and 3.7.10 but it's still "being worked on" accoring to this bulletin...
I don't have to... it's such a basic config, I'll use someone else's:
http://www.ldltech.com.cn/images/product/Nortel/BayStack380-24T-3.gif
Of course, instead of two BayStack380-24T, I'm using two Baystack 5510-48T. And everything is gigabit copper.
Hm. I have an IST between my Passport switches. The two Baystacks are not connected to each other (ie: no 'cascade' as in your diagram) - they are only MLT'd to the Passport core. From what I understand, that should be a valid config. When I sent a copy of my configs to Nortel support, they...
There's no port-based SMLT involved here. This is an initial implementation and I configured the Passports right out of the "SMLT Technical Configuration Guide" PDF. It is the K.I.S.S. case - plain old SMLT config, as I'm just trying to get a handle on things.
I'm wondering if it is this 'DMLT...
I have two baystack 5510s (v4.1.0.05) each with an MLT connected to two passport 8600s (3.7.4.0) configured for SMLT.
I have runs some tests using netperf from six Sun V210s (with 4 interfaces each) and I can't seem to get the traffic to loadbalance between the two links. I'm monitoring the...
oh. Oh. OH. OHHHHHH.
Yes, yes - it is a 8616GTE. Somehow I thought it was a 10/100/1000 blade for the PP8600. Since it is just 1000, that explains EVERYTHING.
Ok, I'll go back to figuring out how to make this work.
Thanks!!
Tony
Aha! I've already tried that. I connected a different port on the PP8600 to a different Cat5500, and still no dice. To disable autoneg, I did this:
Nortel:
config ethernet 2/3 auto-negotiate disable
Cisco:
set port speed 12/5 100
set port duplex 12/5 full
I've also tried to do this on the...
I have started this thread over in the Nortel forum (http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=1015965&page=1) but I figured I would ask here as well, since it involves both platforms. There are more details (switch configs) in the Nortel thread. Thanks!
Tony

Here is the nortel config (I believe it's auto), followed by the Cisco config. What I can't find is how to pin the nortel interface to 100/full. I have experience with Cisco, so I know I can do that.
--- nortel begin ---
name-of-nortel:5# config ethernet 2/1 info

I have a 8616GTE in my Passport 8600 and I'm trying to trunk it to a WS-X5234 in my Catalyst 5500 (link the new Nortel network to the old Cisco gear for testing). I've got a sigle port connected with a single crossover cable, but I'm not getting any link. I know the port is good and the cable is...
