Thanks very much for that. I'm afraid I'm no programmer and it doesn't mean anything to me.
There are a couple of hundred print queues that need administering.
I think I'll keep going with the delagated admin route. Either that or try and resurrect my career as a rock star.
Thanks for that but this is quite a high level document providing an overview of delegated administration.
I need to know how to delegate control of an OU of printers so that a certain group can only read all the properties and delete print jobs...
Hello,
does anyone know if it is possible to delegate control of an OU (that only contains printers) so that it is only possible to view properties and delete stalled jobs?
I delegated control of our printers OU to the service desk and created a custom task that allowed read all properties and...
Hello all,
we are migrating a number of print queues from an nt server to another off-site nt server.
Most of our clients print to unc paths, eg:
\\servername\printer
As NT4 doesn't support aliases we're faced with the unattractive task of visiting every single PC to change the path.
Is...
The security groups on the appliance have already been set up. As I'm sure you know it emulates a win 2000 member server.
I agree that the problem is definitely on the NT side, but I think I've found a way round it:
I mapped a drive to the server from my (XP) laptop and was able to copy the...
Hello all,
I'm trying to move about 40GB of data from 2 windows nt4 servers to a netapp filer.
Xcopy will not work as despite the fact the filer emulates a windows 2000 member server it cannot be accessed via 16 bit windows apps so I'm having to do a manual drag and drop.
Unfortunately the...
Further to what I wrote above I've done a bit of testing.
I created a test directory structure with nonsensical folder names just to create a path that was too long for a normal drag and drop copy.
I then ran xcopy and got an Insufficient Memory error! I checked on Microsoft's site and the...
Hello all,
I'm copying user data from one of our servers to a netapp filer but am receiving a 'path too long' error.
I believe this is because the path to some files is greater than 255 (260?) characters long.
I truncated the name of the first couple of files that produced an error but more...
The incorrect CLSID is a typo on my part. I forgot that an S can't possibly be part of a hex string.
I have installed the adminpak and the mmc started working okay. The issue I have with this is that the whole point of creating and securing a custom mmc was that so we wouldn't have to install...
Tried registering those .dlls (successfully) and rebooted but got the same error.
Unless anyone has any other ideas I think I'll have to admit defeat and install the full admin pack. Although it's frustrating as the mmc is working okay on 2 machines...
Not sure. Will investigate. Doesn't this defeat the object of creating taskpads though?
I realise they won't be able to make any changes without the necessary delegated admin but I would have thought that it's a bad idea just to have all those tools available.
Hello,
I've created a secure mmc for our help desk to administer user accounts. It works fine on 2 PCs but on the other 8 I get the following error:
Snap-in failed to initialise
Name:<unkown>
CLSID:{E3SSE538-1C2E-11DO-8C37-00C04FD8FE93}
There is a KB article on this that asks for an extra...
hello all,
i've been asked to move a large amount of data from an NT4 file server on to a network attached storage device (nas).
Although the nas has no windows os on it, it lives on the domain as a windows 2000 member server. The files are being moved from a domain controller so consequently...
A couple of days ago I moved a swap file from one partition to another on one of our file servers. I kept the size of the file the same.
The partition I moved it from was nearly full but had a capacity of 135GB. The partition I moved it to had a capacity of 65GB about 5GB of which was free...
Managed to resolve this - went to server manager on the pdc and added in the bdc's new name.
Previously I had added it in from server manager on another bdc.
Once I did this the netlogon service restarted okay and the bdc started replicating fine.
Hello all,
as the title suggests I have a 2003 box hosting a number of print queues. These work fine and have all sorts of clients printing to them okay.
However, one of our desktop support people has informed me that very often when he tries to connect a win98 pc to one of the queues and...
