Hello, we have recently changed the name of a BDC on our network and moved it to a different office.

It is on the network okay and has been added to the replication list on the pdc under its new name.

However we have been getting 1 or 2 problems with people authenticating to it and the event viewer is full of event id 5722 and 5721.

I've also just restarted the netlogon service and it will not restart. The following error appears:

error 1787 the sam database on the windows nt server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship.

I've tried removing this server's computer account but it will not delete from server manager.

From looking at the microsoft support site it seems they recommend a netdom utility but I can't track this down anywhere!

The server has been rebooted but this has made no difference. There is also now a new BDC on the network that has the old name of this server.

Am I going to need to rebuild?

So you've moved a BDC to a different site, is it still part of the same original domain, or are we talking about a new domain?

Sounds like you have simply changed the name, and installed a new BDC with the old name? Did the problems start before or after you installed the new BDC?

The utility you refer to can be found with the nt resource kit.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Managed to resolve this - went to server manager on the pdc and added in the bdc's new name.

Previously I had added it in from server manager on another bdc.

Once I did this the netlogon service restarted okay and the bdc started replicating fine.
