Agree with Ed Fair. Try booting from boot disk. select option to run with CD support. then try everything again in the DOS shell. It usually works for me.

If the only thing that changed was the physical location adn you can't find anything external as the problem I would have to agree that it's a "physical" problem. Try shutting down the problem machines and resetting the cables and anything else that might have moved during the change...
You didn't mention the operating system but here goes:
Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Information
Then Tools on the menu bar, then DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Then try playing around with the sound and music in there to see what happens

This one is interesting but doesn't sound like a motherboard problem. If everything was working fine then the problem may be software. did you download anything (virus) immediately B4 your modem problems started/

Hi, I'm not sure why you would want to go that route. Your 98se drivers will not work with XP and if the computer is old XP may not be a good idea. But if you feel you need to use your new software the site below may be helpful.
