Accessing DFS shares remotely via RRAS

    - Yes the ip is on the same subnet as the internal system - In my RRAS configuration I did put our DC as the DNS server - What exactly is not supported with multihomed DC? I do have a 'bdc' server running. Could this be a cause to our problems? - Yes we use windows' "create a connection" VPN...

Accessing DFS shares remotely via RRAS

Well, when I directly query my remote server that I use on my PPP connection it correctly resolves my local domain to it's DC (we use 'private' domain (.local) at the office). But it doesn't resolve it when I don't specify my DNS server (it uses my ethernet adaptor's settings). We use 'private'...

Accessing DFS shares remotely via RRAS

I configured our W2K DC as a RRAS server. I also let gre and pptp through our Cisco ASA 5505(static route to the server and access group on outside_in). RRAS uses static IP address pool. NetBEUi is allowed in the RRAS configuration for the entire network. When I access our RRAS server remotely...

Cannot Rename a File or a Folder on a DFS Share

Thanks Brandon, I was able pinpoint it to the Dell's 3-rd party (Wave Systems Corp.) fingerprint reading software that came preinstalled on these Latitude 530s. I shut it's services down and got my DFS access back. Thanks Oleg

    Account Lockout

I'm not sure what happened - but I think that wcburton is right. I did the same - I created a brand new policy defining a different number in the lockout policy (10 attemtps - which is OK by me) and it started working. It still says N/A in the gpresult - USER SETTINGS-Applied Group Policy...

    Account Lockout

Hi there, We're are on W2K Domain. Users (W2K and WXP copmuters) keep locking out after entering wrong password 3 times even though Domain's Account Lockout policy is not defined. Any suggestions? Thank you, Oleg

    DFS rootname and share

That's not exactly what I was asking. I actually was planning to map users' drives to a DFS root not to a link. But thanks anyway.

    DFS rootname and share

I'm creating a DFS root with the same rootname as the share it's based on. So when users map a drive letter to that DFS root do their systems pick the DFS or the Share for the mapping source? Thank you

    DFS rootname and share name

I've read somewhere on ms technet that in domain-based (W2K) DFS the sharename in the UNC path \\server\share must be the same as DFS root name in \\domainame\rootname. We have a folder-share on our W2K DC that our Accounting app. uses. I'd like to create a DFS root on this folder and I want to...

Hi there, Strangest thing happened with one of the user's Outlook. She sends an email to a group of 43 people including herself (with 4MB pdf attachment). Then she leaves the office in ~10 minutes, closes her laptop lid (it goes to the StandBy mode). Next morning she comes back and finds her...

Path and file name maximum length

Hi there, From what I understand NTFS's maximum path length is 256 characters. Does this include file name or not? And conversely, the file name limit of 256 characters - does it include directory path? Seems like it does. I created a long path on our network (~245 charactes). Then I created...

We are running Windows 2000 server Domain with the mixture of WinXP and Win2K workstations. I ran the Microsoft's TZEdit.exe utility to edit Daylihgt Savings Time on our W2K DC...

    2 RAID controllers

Hi there, Our server has an old Adaptec 2005S RAID SCSI controller with 4HDs in RAID5 configuration. I'm planning to expand our data storage capacity by move some of the less dynamic data to the new SATA RAID1 hard drives. I was wondering though, can I have 2 different RAID controllers (SCSI...
