Hi,
AS2000SP4 on W2K SP3
I run a full exchange backup daily using GFS, I want to run a full brick level on friday but only an incremental through the week (due to backup window) and I want to append this to the full daily backup job. I checked the append box under gfs under the schedule tab...
I upgraded the agent and applied patch Q022840. This solved the brick level problem (which we were using to test for mailbox corruption). Our problem with E8602 failed to read from database seems to be network related, ping tests showed we were occasionally losing connectivity during the backup.
Thanks for all help so far,

E8602 Failed to read from database. (DBNAME=Information Store, EC=)
It backs up 22GB of a 26 GB Inf Store then fails...
I had the same problem, upgraded the agent then installed the patch and the errors stopped. In fact all looks fine from the job log. But when I checked the dbaexchg2.log I see the following:
<01/31/03 14:22 PID:703 TID:722> Warning: One or more messages in folder Inbox is not backed up...
We had a similar problem, but only with users from one particular office. Traced the lockouts to an OWA server, stopped Outlook Web Access and the accounts stopped locking out. Enabled it and the account's locked out. We left the OWA sservice disabled on that server, now we have the same problem...
There is a unix util called tail.exe that can be run on windows. You pass it the filenam and the number of lines you want returned from the end of a file, you can redirect the output to a text file.
