Just some thoughts,
Have one Tree and one domain (you don't have that many users so traffic AD traffic and replication should be fair light), a server per site that's a DC/GC/DNS (you should have two DC's per site for fault tolerence - but that cost more money ...)
Then I'd get a national ISP...
To save lugging all the stuff home, geta good machine with 1GB+ of RAM and load up VMware. They have a 30 day trial on the site.
The other half is now hppy the second bed room doesn't look like a computer junk yard and I can now build test networks on my laptop!
Just had a thought, Can you set the GPO to lock (grey out user access) the Automatic updates options on the clients and pre-define the options for the clients?
Does this GPO setting work?
If it does, try the push to the clients again, ensuring they need patching in the first place.
Let me know!
Your internal domain shouldn't contain a public namespace. Leave your current internal domain (rodge) as is and use an MX record for the new public domain to point to the internal Exchange server.
You can ask the ISP to do this for you.
Note - Your firewall will be required to NAT the public...
Hmmm,
Just to cover the points I'm sure you've done:
-XP box is in the 2003 domain
-The time is set correctly on the Xp box to the domain time and time zone.
-Sp1 is on XP
-The Server name of the SUS server in the GPO is http://netfinity.yourdomain.com and nothing further has been added to...
I've had no problems with SUS and XP and no need to install wuau22.msi on XP either.
You may want to try the FQDN of the SUS server in the GPO instead of just http://netfinity/, checking that the name can be resolved first.
Might resolve what the problem is.
As per my post above, In ISA MMC goto Policy Elements, Content Groups - right click on Content Groups and select add. Create a Group call Blocked Downloads. Pop in a description then click the add button type in .MP3 then ok
It will be added to the list. You can then add in .Exe, .CMD, .Bat...
Is the client actually making the connection to the server? Does the remote machine actually log in to the ISA server
or is the Cisco Firewall blocking the PPTP connection.
If it is PPTP and it's allowed through the Cisco, then in ISA, try - right clicking on packet filters -properties and...
You can create a defintion in ISA for certain attachment files such as .MP3, .Exe etc in Policy Elements, Content Groups.
The create a Site and Contents rule for all users/groups to block access to that defination rule.
Works fine for me and stops those pesky users sucking up all the bandwidth...
Either block instant messenger software with rules or you'll have to buy something like Akonix L7 Enterprise for ISA Server to stop/take control over it.
Have you enabled the LDAP connector in Exchange 5.5?
Can you do a LDAP query on the 5.5 server?
Get those going and both servers should be able to talk to each other.
Just some thoughts:
Have you checked that the machines can do name resolution?
Open up a Dos Window and type in NSLookup, then try to resolve some external name i.e. tek-tips.com.
Quick fix would be to point them at the same DNS settings as the Server is using.
If your using DNS on the 2003...
