I have a question regarding cloning multiple hard drives.
I need to extract an image from a desktop PC and load it onto 50+ other identical computers.
I've used programs such as Norton Ghost before but I would ideally like to create the image file without installing more software onto the...
Well found out why the laptop would not boot properly. I had a look at the safe mode boot screen and realised that it always hung on mup.sys. It turned out that I needed to have the main computer listed as a ACPI PC instead of a unicode MCPI. Once I made the changes in the hardware manager the...
Well, the install xp using another computer hasn't worked. I've tried the method as suggested as bcastner but when I transferred the hardrive to the laptop I got a non-system disk error (even though the harddrive would boot when connected to the desktop machine).
Does anyone know what I'm doing...
I tried running setup with smartdrive running and everything seemed fine during the precopy phase (Which took less than 10 minutes). Then setup informed me that the MSDOS part of the setup had been completed and that it was time to restart the laptop to begin the XP installation proper. I...
That was one of the things I'm considering, so I'm going to have another go but installing smart drive beforehand. I did leave the laptop for nearly an hour though with no suggestion of activity so I'm still not sure.
There is no network port in the laptop, only a modem. I don't have windows 2000 server and I have no idea what the other idea even meant. I only have my Win XP desktop machine and the stuff I mentioned earlier. Thanks anyway though.
Thanks for the suggestions. Basically it will have to be installing DOS first (which ain't asy without a floppy drive) but I'll look into it.
I was pretty out of ideas so thanks.
I may try that, but my DOS is a little shaky, especially when it comes tp laptops and PCMCIA devices.
Thanks for the suggestion, but are there any other options?
Windows XP is 32bit. Windows 64 will be 64 bit for the new 64bit processors.
There are some compatability problems with XP and older programs (mainly pre win95) but you can try running these older programs in compatability mode.
You can do this by finding the EXE of the program you want to run...
Having a few problems with a new laptop.
I've just come into the possesion of a rather splendid little Toshiba Portege with a PIII600 processor and 192Mb RAM. The only problem that it's tiny size means a lack of CD or floppy drives and also a lack of O/S. I don't have the toshiba cd drive or...
Thanks. I've never heard that term before and I've been building PCs for nearly 3 years. Do they come bundled with mother boards or can they be bought seperately?
Hi, I have a somewhat silly question but somewhat vital for me. Does anyone know the name of the piece of metal on the back of a computer case into which the mouse, keyboard, USB etc. ports fit? Would anyone know the kind of places I could acquire one (I live in the UK)?
Thank you
Thanks to everyone for their help. In the end I had to give up. I only needed to transfer a large amount of data once so I ended up finding an old hard disc which did the job. Everyone has been helpful and supportive, I'll certainly visit this forum again.
Thanks to everyone
When I ping the 2k machine from the 98 machine I get a request timed out message. But the 2K machine seems to be recieving the data (shown in the status box) but it's not responding. I've set both cards to full duplex but there's no change. My firewall got deleted when my second hard drive...
The computers do not ping.
sharing protocols are present on both and drives and folders are shared on both.
I have created a log in for the 98 machine but there is no difference. Is there a step-by-step guide that someone could point me towards? I'm sure I've missed something pretty basic...
the Win2k computer has been set to allow anyone access to the 98 computer. However, I cannot even get the 98 machine to see the win2k machine, or vice versa.
I'm trying to network 2 pcs together, one running windows 2000 and the other running 98. I'm using ethernet cards and crossover cable. TCP/IP is installed on both machines. The 2000 machine IP is set to 10.1.1.1 and the 98 machine is set to 10.1.1.2. I'm getting icons showing me that there is a...
