2 mil rows is nothing. We are creating cubes with 27 mil. of rows. To build this cube we need something like 2,5 hours. What is the SQL of your query? What for DBMS do you use? Did you create dimension queries and fact queries? Is the hardware of your Transformerserver fast enough?
You can use OLE DB without creating an ODBC connection.
Did you specify a "Provider String" in the database definition?
For example:
Provider: SQLOLEDB
Data Source: databaseservername
Provider String: Initial Catalog=databasename
