Everytime i swap tapes, i have to turn off the tape engine then resart. This is the only way that the tapes are seen by the tape library. Any suggestions?

im running a restore but not to the original location.
the dates on the folders are reflecting the restore date and not the original folder creation dates.

hi -
i just bought a buffalo external network drive. i would like to back up to it using the "backup to file system device" option.
when i go to add the network path from a mapped or non mapped drive, the tape engine fails to start after i run device congifuration.
i end up deleting the file...
My setup is very simple...i have two servers running 2003.
My primary backup server runs great by itself.
When i try to add a Distributed Server, i have a problem
with the tapes, they hang when i run an inventory.
It seems like a communications problem with the tape library.
When i remove...
We just upgraded to 11.5, however on my first full backup
instead of getting a F- for full in the prefix, i get A-
Anyone else see this problem?
i should mention that i imported my backup jobs
from version 9.
brighstor 9 build 2040
windows 2003
we had to rebuild a server and reinstall brighstor,
i had some saved old saved jobs as the asx format.
now, when i try to modify the job, brighstor crashes out and disappears. i cant delete the job because i cant highlight the job without it crashing...
this is fixed, we have two servers fighting to be the primary.
i ended up zeroing out the database then running device configuration again.
on a side note...why are my tapes marked with the prefix A-
it used to be
I - incremental
W - weekly
M - monthly
help,
i cant assign the primary and distributed servers,,, well, i can, but it doesnt hold. Should i replace the database with a new one? any services that i can stop or start to fix this problem?
we are running BS 9 build 2100 on windows 2003.
thanks

as it turns out, some of the tapes were mislabled and missing from the backup set. Once we found the missing tapes , we were able to merge the set.
It would have been nice if brighstor sent a message to insert the next tape. oh well.
im having a problem merging LTO Tapes, we have Dell 136T LTO2
Library. I can merge LTO2 Tapes with no problems. Its just the older tapes. some work some dont.
The merge job runs until it gets to session 2 on the tape and then it just hangs with no error messages.
We are running Brighstor 9...
i think we are headed back down to version 9, too many problems with 11. i have one more question,
in san configuration , we can see all three of our servers,
but we cant add more than one Distributed server.
A--(primary)
---B
---C
this is what we want but B will not work with C , however...
i guess what i mean is , i want to zero out the database and free up disk space.
i can run the prune job but ive noticed in the past it really doesnt do anything to free up disk space.
i think rotech has it right...thanks for your help
need help with this one..
when i try to run restores, i get this error 3820 on two seperate servers connected to the same library.
im running Brighstor 11.
things ive noticed: this only happens when more than one tape is involved with the restore. so is it a spanning issue?
i have another...
