Ah. Very good. Thank you joamon and hellbabe for those program names. I shall check them out. I also would enjoy a pile of 3650 switches. I like seeing the Cisco logo on things other than my computer screen, like on someone's shirt, a new piece of equipment, etc. Thank you for your post...
By the way, I have spent too many hours getting rid of trojans, viruses, etc---I made a boot floppy and ghosted the hdd's I need to a physical and network drive. I just reload OS these days, copy favorites, settings---if someone is careless enough to save pics on the company machines after...
Cool! I triple boot with SuSE, 2000 Advanced Server and XP Pro. I do some stuff with Cisco Access Control Server on the 2000. Linux I'm trying to learn---YAST seems to be very entertaining. Later.

Is there a way to prevent unwanted users that have direct access to a Cisco router (or switch) from establishing a console session, say from a laptop, and doing a password recovery? Ponder this whilst I taketh my beauty nap. Thankseth
Tim
Yes, I do. Even old stuff (1900 switches, 2500/2600/1700 routers) from ebay...do you copy and paste in Hyperterminal (or minicom, for Linux people like me), or type? Strange question, I know, but then again, are you being facetious or serious?
Is there a setting in the BIOS that allows for enhanced drive channels, like SATA and IDE? Mine is like that---can choose one IDE and 2 SATA channels, one of each, or enhanced, all channels.
Inside of drives are also sometimes black plastic. If the scratches are in the center of the platters, the servo probably did fail, and it would only take a second for the motor spinning at 7200rpm (assuming SATA) to do all of that. That sounds like a manufacturing defect---even out of warranty...
Hey---first off, when you originally had the NTLDR file disappear or go corrupt, did you by chance have a trojan or some other virus? Also, while the drive is slaved, right click on the bad drive, select properties, then tools, and check now (error-checking). It should say that it needs certain...
Fractional T1, frame relay---what bandwidth does the telco guarantee? If it's 768, then maybe try lowering the bandwidth on the serial interface to whatever the max guaranteed bw from the telco is. Other than that, you got me! Sorry.
Tim
I never saw the output of show controllers of the second router. If you have a DCE attached to both ends, interface and line prot would be up, but you could not ping. I guess make double sure that the serials in question both have ip addresses, are in the same subnet---I would actually do a...
Depends---did you back up the old hard drive, and is it XP PRO, SP2 like this one? Try Norton Ghost, and backup the system to the new hard drive---it will migrate all the settings and everything. Later.
Tim
I know. Sorry I was late. The NTLDR is the operating system (NT) loader (LDR) file. I was just suggesting that backing up a registry is good because trojans often hook into several parts of your registry and are almost impossible to completely get rid of. If you want practice, take a junk...
You absolutely need a floppy drive to load third party scsi or RAID drivers at startup---if this is what you are talking about. How did your user get this trojan in the first place? And what files did they delete? Norton Ghost and registry backup tools will definitely save you a lot of trouble...
Exactly---the router needs to be in bridge mode for the domain controller to dole out the dns. I use a Cisco 837, and my XP Pro workstation will not connect outside if I use dhcp. For some reason, I have to specify the dns servers from the isp in both the XP machine and the router. Or, you could...
I had similar issues with sound card drivers. Have you tried the firewire manufacturer for this problem? Or is it integrated on the motherboard (in which case it would be the mobo manufacturer)? Try disconnecting the drive without stopping it via the system tray thing first. If this is causing...
When it pops up, try to right click on it. If that does not work, I'm sure it is in the Display properties somewhere (Advanced tab, then General tab---dpi settings to custom? All under Diplay Properties, Settings tab in the Control Panel). Or Goole the error, along with the words "registry...
