I am trying to connect to a MySQL 5.1 database from a VB6 form using ADODCs. I am not doing well. Everything I try for the connection string seems to result in a Error 91.
Can someone point me to documentation, or a tutorial, or some samples for this kind of connection?
TIA
A customer asked me to "Scrub" the HD on a Dell Inspiron 1525 and install Windows XP in place of Vista.
Sounded straightforward enough. Thought the worst I would encounter would be to have to deal with the MBR during the install.
PROBLEM: When the install reaches the decision point of "Repair"...
I will show a little ignorance here and ask: Are the ADODCs and the DE dependent upon SQLDMO? If not I would really like to find a way to make them work.
As for the DB switch, a biggie in the decision is that MySQL is free and this system is in direct support of Schools.Have you ever heard of...
It has been decided that I must convert 3 VB6 Projects that use a common SQL Server DB to use a MySQL DB. The DB migration went well and appears to be ready.
PROBLEM: I have not been able to find the info I need to make the code substitutions in the VB6 projects. The code that has worked well...
I asked the MS Visual Studio Presenter (Sorry, can't remember his name) for the MS Event in St. Louis. My understanding of his answer is that IF you are using any .Net 3.0 then your run time compatibility is only good for Vista and XP WITH SP2.
I am not aware of any SP2 for Visual Studio yet.
I did find the problem in the BCM config. It looked like a bug in the SW. When the user name was changed from "user" to "VanBiljon" there was one place where the name was still showing as "user" and the 'full name' was changed to "VanBiljon".
I changed the name to match the full name and that...
Thanks mrdenny, I gave you a star because I learned a couple of really helpful things from you even tho I am still looking for this specific solution.
I have posted on the Office forum as you suggested.
The "Server" machine has a computer name of "Amy" and the client that has the problem is named "Dion". In the past, the end user on "Dion" created a local database, apparently under the user name "User". That database still backs up as "Dion/user" and that works even though there is currently no...

I read the FAQ cited above. I can ping the server and also telnet the server port 1433.
There is no Enterprise Manager on my Customer's LAN. The BCM is operating with SQL Server 2005 Express. I'm wondering if the downloadable version of Enterprise Manager for Express could be temporarily loaded...
Under Business Tools in Outlook, there is a choice of select an existing database with browse option or create a database. Create a database works OK on the local machine but upon browsing to the server BCM database, there is a message that it is not accessible to this machine. The other outlook...
I replaced a hard drive on a client's 4 computer Peer to Peer LAN and did a restore of the C drive. Everything is OK EXCEPT that Business Contact Manager, which operates with a SQL Server 2005 (Express?)database, cannot connect to the BCM database located on another Computer on the LAN. User...
