Can't start smbd on AIX 5.3

I've got it working! Something else was listening on port 139 so I removed the references to netbios-ssn and netbios-ns from inetd.conf and restated the daemon using 'refresh -s inetd'. When I run /usr/local/sbin/smbd -D afterwards it works fine! Mike

Can't start smbd on AIX 5.3

I seem to have managed to get round the previous error by enabling Asyncronous I/O (thanks!) but I now have another problem... The nmbd daemon still starts OK but smbd returns the following error; # /usr/local/sbin/smbd -D Abort(coredump) # I also get the following when trying to find out a...

Can't start smbd on AIX 5.3

Hi, Thanks for your reply! I'm afraid I don't really know what I'm looking for here. When I go into the "Change/show characteristics of Asynchronous I/O" the "State of fast path" field is set to enable. When I run the following command though it returns nothing; # lsdev -Cc postix_aio #...

Can't start smbd on AIX 5.3

Sorry, I meant to say, when I tried to start the daemon manually I got the following error; # /usr/local/sbin/smbd -D Could not load program /usr/local/sbin/smbd: Dependent module libpopt.a(libpopt.so.0) could not be loaded. Could not load module libpopt.a(libpopt.so.0). System error...

Can't start smbd on AIX 5.3

Hi all, I'm trying to install and configure SAMBA on AIX 5.3 but can't start smbd. I've downloaded SAMBA 3.0.21 from the UCLA site below and extracted it successfully. I've also created my smb.conf file under the /etc directory and run testparm which seems to suggest everything is setup...

No default smb.conf file created after install

Hi can anyone tell me if it's normal for no default smb.conf file to be created after installing samba v3.0.4.0 on AIX 5.1? I would expect a default file to be placed somewhere but it definitely does not exist. If this is normal does anyone know where the smb.conf file should be created? It...

    Samba

I should add.... I've checked www.bullfreeware.com but can only download a samba package in .bff format. Does anybody know how to use the restore command in AIX 5.1 to take the input from the filesystem rather than from tape? Thanks!

    Samba

Hi all, Does anyone know where to download a prcompiled copy of the samba package for AIX 5.1. The samba site doesn't have it and my search on the internet returns several source code versions but no packages. It doesn't really matter which version I use as it's just to test conectivity on a...

gzip - File too large error

Thanks for the replies. I unzipped and untarred the file at the same time as per Gloups suggestion however I'm sure the links provided by KenCunningham will also be handy in future! Thanks again!

gzip - File too large error

Hi Ken, They only have v1.2.4 of gzip. I'll need a later version (or a patch to take it up to the next revision) before I'm able to 'gunzip' a file over 4 gb in size. I hadn't come across that site before though - I'll definitely keep it in my favourites from now on! Any other ideas?

gzip - File too large error

Hi all, I'm in the process of trying to unzip a file that's over 9gb in size. I've tried the following however each command returns the "File too large" error message; gunzip file.tar.gz gunzip < file.tar.gz > file.tar cat file.tar.gz | gunzip -dc > file.tar I'm only running gzip 1.2.4 and...
