One of the suggestions is to change the Nic Settings from full to half-duplex. ( seems strange but it does work)
Also check to see if the switch that it's patched into is set to Auto or not, if it is and all your Lan segments are 100Mb/sec then change the setting.
See if you have any AV services running on the Exchange server. Groupshield or McAfee can cause timeouts due to VAPI calls being made by the A/v software while MAPI calls are being made by the Backup Application. If you have any AV software running as a service try stopping it and running a test...
Check the network card settings on the slower server. If the card is set to full duplex or Auto, drop it to half duplex, also ensure that if it is patched into a switch that the switch is set to 100Mb/s or 10Mb/s and not Auto-Sensing.
Try setting the speed on the remote servers to Half-Duplex.
We got a 10-fold increase in throughput when we did this. Also see if the NIC driver is current. New revs of the drivers made a big difference also.
We had this problem and one of the tests that we did was to disable the NAV for exchange service on the Exchange Server. It worked in that the mailboxes are now backing up. There are a few other issues still but its something worth trying.

Hi,
Try and lay down some of the specific errors that you are receiving with the jobs, any details that you can recall would be useful. Then the healing can begin!

I got a phone call from the Enterprise Level Tech Support Group in the UK. Good guy on the face of it....took the details, bios revs, firmware levels, OS, patches applied etc..etc...and then he tells me that there has been a new device patch released and would I download and apply it.
So I say...
Current updates, have now replaced another drive, the SCSI controller card, the SCSI cable and the terminator. Still the same issue. Have now hair growing out of the back of my hands. I am no closer to solution now than I was when I started. It seems to be a hardware fault and yet it has all...
I have been working for two months on and off now trying in vain to get a satisfactory resolution to this issue. Arcserve is a crock of s**t in my opinion. I have to date replaced the library and one drive. Reinstalled all the drivers for the SCSI controller and all the available firmware...
