Getting the E8602 error along with the following error 'Backup Agent Error (69) "Read/Write error in named pipes"?

Can someone please give me some clues how to overcome this error.

Try updating both server and exchange agent to latest service pack, and then applying on top of it qo06202.caz

See if you have any AV services running on the Exchange server. Groupshield or McAfee can cause timeouts due to VAPI calls being made by the A/v software while MAPI calls are being made by the Backup Application. If you have any AV software running as a service try stopping it and running a test backup to see.

Had the same issue (and would rather chew off my arm than speak with tech support at CAI).

I'm running ARCserve 2000 on a Win2K box and it backs up a remote Exchange55 server running on NT4. As soon as the backup hit the bricks level, I'd get named pipes errors and the backup would fail.

The workaround was to use ARCserve's pre and post commands within the job to stop the InoculateIT service before the job and restart it upon completion -- i.e., net stop "InoculateIT Server" and net start "InoculateIT Server."

Don't like running w/o the antivirus protection but I have a firewall blocking a ton so it's do-able.

I have been having the exact same problem, Called ca support for $90 and they still have no clue on what the heck is wrong. My exchange setup is an active/passive cluster arcserve not installed on either server, only the backup agent. Things were working great after I applied the dll fix a few months back but about 2 weeks ago the named pipe errors started killing my backup. I'm using antigen for exchange for AV, tried running the backup with AV disabled last night as ca suggested to no avail. I think i'm really going to look at a new backup solution.. arcserve is bad in every way.

I am getting same error, when I try to backup ORACLE 8.1.56 DB with Arcs2000. I have AS_sp3 installed. I reinstalled Oracle agent 100 times, tied using TCP, nothing worked.
I see people having same trouble with exchange. Is there a relation? CA does not have any convincing answer.
Help!!!

I have come to the conclusion the CA arcserve is an absolutlely worthless product and will look for a better backup solution today.

this problem was caused by corrupt attachments in mailboxes, I cleaned out a few boxes and the problem is gone, I still hate Ca and always will.
