We are planning on implementing SUS in our network environment soon. As I'm sure we have all dealt with, we have users that don't like to run patches because of reboots and what not. We have gotten it to the point where you can "grey out" the button to "remind me later", but when the updates...
Getting the error:
Setup cannot continue because files are missing from the installation directory. Please run Setup again and choose Resume Setup. This will download the missing files and continue Setup.
We are installing over 5.01 on 2000 machines. If you hit ok the error will go away on...
To avoid automatically rebooting on error:
Right click My Computer and go to properties.
Click the advanced tab.
Click the Startup and Recovery button.
Uncheck automatically reboot. This will give you a blue screen upon error which may help you discover the source of the problem.
1.5 times the amout of memory you have is the recommended minimum. That does not mean that it is enough. If you have space on your drive set it to minimum 768 to 1024 or if you want lower set it to 384 to 768. There is no reason that you shouldn't be able to set it higher than 1.5 unless you...
I know about the Run key in the registry to execute files upon startup, but is there a way to execute files on shutdown using the same method?
Thanks,

There a quite a few things that you can do with Wise Installer.
1.) Repackage - This basically scans your machine, runs the application install that you specify, and then scans the systems again creating what Microsoft would call a sysdiff file (EXE or MSI). So it looks at the changes made...
Sorry it's been so long since I have replied. I found out that you were correct before I saw this post. I checked out the registry and found that under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Installer\Products" it will drop a registry key that basically tells the installer that it has...
If you want to still do all of this through Fdisk, you can still use the 98 boot disk to make all your partition changes. Win2000 will recongize these partitions.
Probably the best way to do this is to create a "msi shell" or "wrapper" that will just call the executables. It does require that you install something, so I normally just have the MSI install an empty notepad document to the temp folder. This allows the exe to run like it...
I'm working with Wise Installer to create a msi "shell" for an executable so we can put it out through active directory. I want the program to show up in add/remove, but I don't want the MSI to show up. So I use the following properties:

One of my users is getting "illegal operation 'm' inside a text object" every time that he opens a pdf and every time he scrolls to a new page. I can't find anything for this an Adobe's website. Anyone know anything about these?
Thanks in advance!

I am working with Adobe Acrobat 5.05. The way that we set up this package to work is to Publish a MSI in Add New Programs that calls a custom action to uninstall any current version and then call the Actual Adobe acrobat setup from an Acrobat CD. Everything works great until you want to...
You don't seem to understand. I know how to move the personal folders.
Do you know how you can go into word and change the default save location? Well, that's exactly what I'm talking about.
It's ok though. Thank you all for your suggestions :)
I'm sorry I couldn't be clear enough...
I'm talking 95 and/or 2000. I know that you can save the .pst to anywhere you want and I know you can move it anywhere you want. When you go to tools/services/add/personal folders/hit ok it will ask you where it is or to create one. The default location of where it first tries to find it or...
Ok...from what I can tell this is going to be a tough one.
It's a simple question, difficult answer.
Can you change the DEFAULT FILE LOCATION of where a Personal Folder is created in Outlook??
The DEFAULT path is C:\Documents and Settings\<profile>\Local Settings\Application...
Ok...after looking into some apps that I currently have, I found that this can very easily be done using SMS Installer. Basically, you can set it up to do registry checks to see if the value equals, is less than, or greater than what you need and then create if/then statements. You can also...
