Is there any easy way to increase password complexity requirements to use all four of the complexity categories instead of three? I havent been able to find anything on this and some people have mentioned that I may need to recode some dll files possibly even msgina.dll.
Hi,
Does anyone know the User Rights Assignment needed for Users to Stop and Start Services.
Developers are constantly asking for administrator rights because they need to do this. I want to stop handing out administrator rights like candy.

I am using 6.5.2 SU 33 on Windows 2000 server SP4 with the entprise reporting installed.
Do you know the release date of control compliance suite V9.0?
Ive installed it and its great!
Many differences from 3.5...... It takes some getting used to.
Web based with AD authentication! No more consoles and no more JAVA!
Rouge machine detection and system compliance profiler are not included but are due to be released soon. They are lacking on...
I see that the forum has 63 members. I asked tek tips to create this forum because Ive gotten much use out of the Mcaffee forums.
What are you using ESM for?
How many agents do you have deployed?
Are you struggling with the product in anyways?
What OS's are you reporting on?
We are using ESM...
Does anyone know how to use ESM to report on all isntaled programs on windows servers?
My first thought would be to report on DisplayName Valuein all of the subkeys of:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
Ive played around with the registry template but cant...
Keshav,
Thanks! That looks like a good solution. I gave you a star for that one.
Is it effective to use this solution for applying granular permisions. Say creating multiple security templates just for the purpose of granting service access for users. It looks like this is the only good...
Nope adding the user to the "Act as part of the operating system" didnt work either.....
Anyone else have any ideas?
I would like to try and keep it simple. Someone ive talked to suggested editing permissions on the specific services. That seems granular and could turn into an...
I tested adding a user to logon as a service right but this did not grant the access. Does anyone know of a way to grant this access without giving administrative access?
The reason I ask is that there are application support personel within my organization that need access to restart services but administrative access is too much. Also there is a need to grant service accounts access to do the same through some scripts but there are several people that need to...
What type of access is needed to stop/start/restart a service on Windows 2000 Server? Do you need administrative access? What executable performs the actual stop/start/restart?
I posted thread38-925724 a while ago.
My EPO database is now up to around 66gigs even after the SQL has put in mantianance plans. In my organization we have about 12,000 machines reporting in. I think the majority of events are false positives from the stock behavior blocking rules. As of...
When you install EPO it comes with a bunch of perfmon counters. For some reason they arnt working. Im running 3.5 with the latest patch and running perfmon over remote desktop. Ive had this problem since our first install of 3.0 and am just getting around to trying to figure out an anwser...
The DAT's detect some of the variants. The exploit doesnt use a Buffer Overflow. It uses an escape call in the GDI (http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/181038).
Mcafee says no to the behavior blocking but I dont buy it. I dont have a test lab but I emailed ISC and CERT to look into some more...
Anyone know of any Behavior rules that will successfully warn or block the WMF exploit? Ive got a call into mcafee to see if they reccommend anything. My first thoughts would be to warn if gdi32.dll trys to execute anything. If im correct gdi32.dll uses the escape call the executes the code...
Yes, windows xp service pack 2. Its a problem with the common updater. I uninstalled the agent and then reinstalled it and now its working fine. I was up to 7 epoagent tray icons. Ive only seen this on one machine so far.....
Running EPO agent version 3.5.0.513 and just installed SP2. Through the course of the day 3 epo agent tray icons will appear all of which cannot be opened to see agent activity. It looks like UpdaterUI.exe is running three times in memory. Anyone seen any problems with SP2?
Solution:
Selective updating only become possible for VirusScan 8.0i when you check in a patch. After checking in a patch it apparant but disabled.
When VirusScan 8.0i with patch 11 is released a refresh of the package will also make selective updating possible for 8.0i.
This is odd because...
