    eSATA and write caching

Well, you're right. I did manage to find them in XP on my work machine (Device Manager > HDD Properties > Policies tab). The single internal SATA HDD shows up with those options (which are actually grayed out for some reason). The text along with each of those radio buttons directly refers to...

Recommendations for adding a second hard drive

You two are all over these hardware forums. I think "piddle our time away" is an accurate description of what you do here. :) But yes - I wasn't the OP. I just happened to scan the threads, and my purcahse of those two PCs seemd timely because I just got them a couple weeks ago.

    eSATA and write caching

While I did specifically get an eSATA drive for performance, it was only because I find USB to be painfully slow when moving the amounts of data I plan to move onto this drive. I'm certainly looking for the fastest thing I can get, but I'm willing to sacrifice a little if it allows me to...

Recommendations for adding a second hard drive

This thread has lost it's freshness, but I just wanted to report that I recently purchased a couple off-lease computers (one for my niece and one for my nephew), just as goombawaho suggested. For not much more than the cost of a new HDD and some new RAM, you can get a "new" computer that...

    eSATA and write caching

A few weeks ago, I purchased an external eSATA drive and have been transferring a large amount of data to it, as it will now be my primary backup device. After having the drive for less then a day, I immediately started getting notifications in XP of "delayed write failed" after I have turned...

    Extend/Merge Partitions

This is because a single partition must be composed of contiguous drive space, which is why you can combine space from adjacent partitions but not non-adjacent partitions. It's my understand that off-the-shelf partition management programs are capable of doing this, but only because they...

    Vista sharing woes

Correction to the above: It's Vista Business 32-bit. I thought I deleted the word Ultimate.

    Vista sharing woes

I did some searching on this issue, and I didn't find anything applicable to my situation, so it's probably just easier to post it up here and see what I get. My issue is three-fold, and involves a simple way to share files between my Vista (Ultimate Business 32-bit) computer and my XP computer...

    Web Part Templates for VS.Net

Thinks for the info. About 20 minutes ago, I found this: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2105744&SiteID=1 The second post has a LOT of good info. I'm still digesting it and poking around with it inbetween other tasks I'm working on. I'll post a follow-up if I get it...

    Web Part Templates for VS.Net

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=19F21E5E-B715-4F0C-B959-8C6DCBDC1057&displaylang=en It looks like this is what I need, but one of the system requirements appears to be Windows Server 2003. Is that for real? Does that mean that it's impossible to develop web parts in...

    Web Part Templates for VS.Net

Anyone? Do they not work with VS.Net 2005? I'm trying to write web parts for Sharepoint 2007, which I was led to believe is .Net 2.0 at its core, so I don't know why there would be no templates for 2005.

    Web Part Templates for VS.Net

I just noticed that they are available in VS.Net 2003, but no 2005. Is there a Template set specific to 2005 that I need to download? I've had no luck searching on Microsoft's web sites. Thanks in advance!

    Web Part Templates for VS.Net

I've installed the Web Part Templates (it came from msdn2.ms.com) so that I can begin creating web parts for my Sharepoint server. For some reason, though, when I fire up 2005, Click File > New > Project, there are no references to web parts anywhere under the listing of Visual Studio installed...

Date stored as integer in data we have received

Logic would dictate that you would simply set the data type on that column within the destination table to match that of the origin, but I imagine you have already tried this? I know from experience that the way data is actually stored in the database and the way it APPEARS to be stored in the...

xp first time boot sound theme

Could it be this one: C:\windows\system32\oobe\images\title.wma Check to see if you have that file, and see if that is what you're looking for.

    Form web part

Is it possible to use the form web part to collect date from a user and store it in a custom list, as opposed to the standard use of simplying providing data to other web parts? I'm trying to do some simple info collection, and I'm trying to avoid having to write a custom web part for different...

    custom web part line feed

Seems to me that wrap each individual item from the text file in <P> and </P> tags before they are rendered in the web part. Is this not appropriate in your case?

    Page creation question

I have a site into which I would like to add a few pages. These pages are going to be very simple; one will take some simple web parts, but the other will just be pages which will be edited via the "Edit Content" link (rich text editor popup. In any case, when I create these as a Web Part Page...

STUPID PROBLEM IN WINDOWS EXPLORER CAN T ACCESS SERVER FILES

You don't necessarily have to use \\servername, but the problem is the same for me: windows explorer doesn't know what 192.168.x.x is, and it assumes it's an IP address you want to view via the web. If you do \\192.168.x.x, it should work as you expect, though.

sql server 2005 - on delete cascade

Ignore the fact that I mentioned SQL 2000. I forgot you mentioned 2005 specifically, but you can do this in 2k5 as well via the SQL Management Studio.
