I am using Microsoft Backup to backup everything from my E: partition to a separate Hard Disk (D)
The E: partition is 9.8 Gb in size and yet the size of the compressed backup file is over 15 Gb
How is this possible?

Got hold of another HDD and tried that - same result so the problem couldn't have been the HDD or DVD Drive, the only 2 alternatives left were the motherboard which is relatively new or the crap old 250w power supply. Bought a new 500w power supply and everything...
