    Multiple SCCM servers and firewalls

I have been asked to take a look at a system that has multiple SCCM servers in different sites. These are all linked together, and the system works well. One of the reasons for the system is software inventory, and this is what I am concerned about here. We now need to change the network, to...

    Corrupt disk

I don't have backup. Just taken over the server. FORTUNATELY there are only a small number of users, and all have a local cache copy of their email in an Outlook 2007 OST file. phew.

    Remove Exchange 2007 corrupt PF

I have an Exchange 2007 server ( the only one in the organisation ), and need to remove it. Only problem is, the EDB files have become corrupt due to a disk failure. They are gone, no more. Also no backup. So, I have run the removal tool, and have got as far as I can until it complains that I...

    Corrupt disk

Thanks for your suggestions, guys. The reason that I'm on this forum rather than Exchange is that it's the disk that is U/S, and first step is to be able to copy the file off the disk, which I can't currently do. I may then have to hit the Exchange forums. All assumptions so far are correct...

    Corrupt disk

Unfortunately, the server isn't running any kind of RAID. I want to move the EDB over to the C drive for now, just to get it working. Will then think about setting up a proper spec server. Exchange is running, just can't mount the mailstores. This is why I just want to recover the two EDB files...

    Corrupt disk

I have a corrupt disk on an Exchange server. My problem is that I want to back up one of the EDB files, but Windows is giving an error : 0x8007045d . The disk failed last night, and I have managed to get it running by cold-starting the server. Seems it isn't quite right, as I can't access the...

    Central Admin shows blank screen

Fixed it ! I found that one of the services that SharePoint obviously needs ( but the install didn't say ) was the application service. Installed that, and all went well. Wish MS would check all the services it needs during the install - it does some, but somehow missed that one. Grrrrr.

    Central Admin shows blank screen

There are no errors, however I have used Fiddler to have a look at the HTTP stream, and find I'm getting HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorised. I've given the everyone group all rights to the virtual directory, but still no joy, still a blank screen and Unauthorised.

    Central Admin shows blank screen

I have a MOSS 2007 installation on a Win 2008 box, with IIS7. I can get the main IIS page to display, but whenever I go into Central Admin, all I get is a blank screen. The source is : <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content="text/html...

    Restore using STSADM

I'm moving a SharePoint system from one server to another, and have successfully used STSADM to move the content across, with a restoremethod of new. I now need to do another backup / restore cycle before I go live, but as predicted, the new option won't work, as the database is now populated...

    USB memory stick read only

Thanks, Guys. The reg hack is just what I need.

    USB memory stick read only

I need to protect my network by setting any USB drives ( HDD, memory stick, camera etc ) to read only. I've found a reg edit to disable them, but read only is more difficult. Does anyone have a regedit to fix this ?

    difference between two tables

Just what I needed - thanks

    difference between two tables

I have two access tables, where the structure in each is exactly the same. They were taken from the same database, one a month later than the other. There are some records that have been deleted - I can use the "Find unmatched query" wizard to find them, no problem. Some data was changed in the...

    Restore failed with skipped files

    Thanks for the discussion

    Restore failed with skipped files

We carried out a folder by folder restore, and that seemed to work. Possibly the fact that some folders were compressed, and others were not. Moral of the story - never use Windows compression.

    Restore failed with skipped files

Don't know about that, but we have tried to restore from another tape drive to a different server, and the system fails in the same way there too. Must be something on the tape, hence us thinking that it's the compression.

    Restore failed with skipped files

The old disks are still in the server ( it's a box of disks attached to the server using SCSI - a dell PowerVault 220 ). Unfortunately, many of the files on the original files are corrupted, due to an issue that happened after the backup that we are restoring from. Hence we are restoring from tape.

    Restore failed with skipped files

The disk compression was just Windows compression, on a RAID array connected to the server. We are restoring to a new RAID array with bigger disks, so don't really want to enable compression unless we can possibly help it.

    Restore failed with skipped files

I'm restoring to a new disk. Some of the files seem to restore OK - about 180 Gb, but the final 15 Gb fails. We had compression enabled on the old disks, and it seems as if it's the files that were compressed which are causing the issue. ( not all of the disk was compressed .... long story )...
