thanks franz for the reply. well, late last night, i decided to re-install solaris 10. for some reason, this time it worked, althoguh i did not do anything different from the last install. so i'm not sure what i did, or why it's working now - i'm just glad i can surf again!
i have always been ok with solaris 8 when using the internet via dhcp, but after loading solaris 10 yesterday, my browser can't resolve dns addresses. i've done the same things as before:
1. set etc\defaultrouter to my router's ip address: 192.168.1.1
2. set etc\resolve.conf to the comcast...
thanks stumpr. so what happens when i set the timeout to 60 seconds, and the media server is still out (does not reply)? does that halt the backup schedule for that particular media server (and all clients attached to it), or does it corrupt the entire catalog, halting ALL jobs by the master server?
i understand that procedures need to be followed if de-commissioning a media server, but what happens if it just crashes, and netbackup looks for it? will the catalog crash, and halt ALL backup operations? (assuming more than one media server is present in the domain). thanks for any input.
here is what i get:
# nslookup www.apple.com
Server: ns2.attbi.com
Address: 216.148.227.68
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www.apple.com.akadns.net
Address: 17.112.152.32
Aliases: www.apple.com
....so i don't think it's a DNS/firewall problem, correct?
i appreciate the suggestion...
i noticed that whatever browser i use (netscape 4/6/7, ie 4/5, opera 5), i seem to have a problem loading web pages that pull images from another site (like ebay, when pulling up an actual bid page); or just trying to load sites such as www.real.com, www.apple.com, www.cinemanow.com - they...
i have a sunblade100 that connects to an older 20" sun monitor. i use a converter to plug the monitor into the 15pin vga port. when i try to run
"m64config -depth 24 -res 1152x900x66 try",
which the monitor can easily take (according to the specs), it comes out fuzzy. all i...
ok, so i figured how to save the pre-compiled file, and then i ran "pkgadd -d" in front of it to make it install under "/usr/local". now, when i run gunzip or gzip on the file that i downloaded, (gunzip file.tar.gz | tar -xvf), it says the following error...
ken, thanks for the quick reply. when you say precompiled, you mean: "ftp://ftp.sunfreeware.com/pub/freeware/sparc/8/gzip-1.3.5-sol8-sparc-local"
right? i'm kinda slow, so if you don't mind telling me how to properly do it. when i click on the link, it opens up like a text file. am i...
please pardon the ignorance. im just getting into unix, and the first thing i realized is that i need gunzip on a lot of files i want to download. i have downloaded gzip-1.3.5.tar from sunfreeware, but cannot figure out how to make it work. i did the "tar -xvf gzip-1.3.5.tar" command...
