web browsing on solaris

i noticed that whatever browser i use (netscape 4/6/7, ie 4/5, opera 5), i seem to have a problem loading web pages that pull images from another site (like ebay, when pulling up an actual bid page); or just trying to load sites such as

http://www.real.com,

http://www.apple.com,

http://www.cinemanow.com

- they don't even come up. however i tweak the browser settings, i can never get the pictures/web page to pull up. (i have the flash/java plugins on all netscape versions). has anyone come across this type of problem, and any suggestions on how to fix it? thanks!

Strange. I know browsers allow you to turn off automatic image displaying but since you've tried so much tweaking it probably isn't the problem.

Do you get a specific error for the web-pages that don't come up at all?

Maybe you have DNS or firewall issues. Try an "nslookup

http://www.apple.com"

and make sure the address is resolved. If so try and "ping

http://www.apple.com"

and "telnet

http://www.apple.com

80" (you should get a "Connected to ..." message). Also try the text based browser: "lynx

http://www.apple.com".

....so i don't think it's a DNS/firewall problem, correct?

Correct. Did you try the "ping", the "telnet", & the "lynx"?

You may have a firewall issue.
