Open regedit. Start ---> Run ---> regedit. Browse to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command. There you should have a string value named "(Default)" with data "%1" %*
If that value says something about notepad try changing it to what mine says.

I did a snapshot with Wise Package Studio 4.60.0.47 and Acrobat works perfectly. Didn't even edit the package. We have pretty heavily locked down systems at my company so I'm amazed.
A longshot, it seems like when you're launching programs that are using alot of your gpu it reboots. Check if your graphic card is sharing IRQ with another device, if it is, try moving that other device to another pci slot.

At work we have this problem, mainly when downloading from ftp's (http downloads are ok) and it has something to do with the firewall. Try to disable the firewall and see if that helps, in that case it's something that has to be done to the firewall.

Have you checked the QoS packet scheduler on the XP machine? Start-Run-gpedit.msc-Computer Configuration-Administrative Templates-Network-QoS Packet Scheduler-Limit Reservable Bandwith-Set it to enabled and 0%. Otherwise windows reserves 20% of your bandwith by default.
