Yea as far as load balancing accross interfaces goes it depends on what type of VIF you setup the options are: Single (no load balancing-failover only), Multi (Load balancing), LACP(Load Balancing).
I prefer to use LACP but you need to ensure that the switch supports LACP.
Hello,
Does anyone know if it is possible to change the "Personality" of a DLT/SDLT tape drive? For example I currently have a Compaq branded DLT drive & want to change it back to a Quantum DLT drive. Just flashing the firmware doesnt work (tried it).
Any advice is most appreciated.
Hey Guys,
I have a DLO question for you:
Im trying to use a network share to store the DLO backup files for users. The network share resides on a NetApp FAS270 (NAS device). However when i try to specify this a share on this NAS device DLO asks for a computer name & path. I can enter in the...
Check the event logs of both the Backup Exec media server & the target server for Dr Watson Errors - specifically for "backup exec remote agent terminated unexpectedly"
Also are the onboard NICs teamed?? If so - unteam them & rerun the backup.
Let us know how u go.
Is this happening consistanly on a certain tape??
CRC errors are usually caused by either:
1. Drive fault (usually damaged/dirty/worn heads)
2. Media fault
If you have already replaced the drive i would check your media.
Lock the console to the Backup Exec server!
Other than that there is no way to prevent users from making changes to backup exec. You should install backup exec on a server that only Administrators have access to.
Guys,
I think Justin was refering to windows "NTBACKUP" not Veritas Netbackup.
NTBACKUP isnt a bad choice for you - mainly because it wont cost you anything.
Powerquest (manufacturers of V2i) were recently bought out by Symmantec (as a matter of fact so was Veritas!!!) So the old V2i product...
Backup Exec is only a workgroup class product, ceritfication may help you in a Sys Admin role for a company that uses the product. But other than that I think you would be better to get cetified in an Enterprise produt such as Veritas Netbackup or Legato Networker.
It really depends on what...
Basically BE is saying that when it tried to connect to the remote resource it couldnt find it (obviously).
First of all make sure the resource is still availible - try creating a new backup job & ensure that you can browse to the remote server.
Should be fine - remember that BE restores are performed at the file level (as opposed to block level). Worst case scenario --> you run out of room --> the job fails --> & your OS complains that you are low on disk space.
Hi Justin,
Thanks for the post - it is Backup Exec 9.1sp1

Hi Nummus,

Try sysstat 1 - if your disk read / writes are very high you bottleneck may indeed be the disk subsystem.
Also check out the statit command (you need to set priv to advanced to use this command)

Hi Guys,
We are migrating Windows 2000 user home directories to a new file server - just wondering what's the best way to copy these folders, is there a way to preserve the existing shares?
Please let me know what you guys think.
Cheers
