Well...
We had a power outage, and our generator apparently is not doing it's job. The computer crashed - and the HDD is corrupted.
But, thanks for the help, I'll put it to use once I have a replacement running!
Thanks!
A bit of a 2-parter, some noobie linux admin stuff...
I have my firewall dumping logs to an Ubuntu machine via syslog. I got syslog setup and accepting the logs, and that's great. I configured syslog to save all the logs coming from the firewall to a seperate log file, SSG140.log.
Right now...
Hello,
I have a Windows Server 2008 machine running Terminal Services and TS Licensing. 5 Per User CALs, with a Domain scope.
The server reports Event ID 4105 every time someone logs on to the server remotely:
Description:
The Terminal Services license server cannot update the license...
Okay, so I'm trying to setup a scenario like this:
1 Windows Server 2008 server running TS Gateway and NPS (TSGATEWAY)
1 Windows Server 2008 server running Terminal Services (TSSERVER)
1 Windows Server 2003 server (REMEDIATION) (2003 DCs in our environment)
I want to put TSGATEWAY on a network...
One of my major hurdles was accurately estimating my consumption needs.
I failed to see the easy answer right away. Check PowerChute on the UPSes I already have running to get the status from them. Averaged about 114 VAC per Smart-UPS 1500. Went to the APC UPS Selector page, choose select by...
Thanks ak,
There are one to three servers on the Smart-UPS 1500VAs; and, 4+ on the Smart-UPS 1400VA that almost lost it on last test. Typically the servers are dual processor Xeons with 4 or 5 harddrives.
I have used the APC utility. I believe the problem boils down to the fact that I do not...
Hello,
I work in an office of about 100/150, we have 15/20 servers we manage in the server room, with about 5 various APC (and one triplite) products acting as UPSes for the servers.
The APC products we have now are of the Smart-UPS product line, 3 1500's and a 1400 I believe.
The servers are...
A Windows 2003 does not need to be a Domain Controller to act as a file/print server. In fact, (others may correct me if I am wrong) I believe that the default 2003 install comes with everything you will need to run as a file/print server.
Hello,
I'm not quite sure if this is the correct forum to post this; but, here it goes...
What is commonly used as 'best practice' when applying GPO to a computer in the DMZ. I am about to bring up a web server in our DMZ. This is "physically" separated from the rest of our network, with our...
Hello,
I've seen this once before, and I destroyed the user and re-created everything to fix it. I'd like to know if there's an easier way; and, more importantly, why it's happening.
I have a user that logs on to the domain, and instead of loading their Roaming Profile it creates \Documents...
Hello,
I have a bit of a general security ("best practices") question. Is there any inherent security risk associated with GPO'ing a logon script to import a registry file.
We're having a heck of a time with:
Set WshNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network")...
Hello,
I'm managing a network of about 100/150 XP computers with 2003 servers. We are in a child domain of a larger institution-wide forest. We do not manage any DNS servers ourselves. Randomly (happens a lot as clients are booting up) clients will send out 20 to 30 pings at the 4 DNS...
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the responses.
I can get in with RPC calls, as Steve suggested. And, looking at the Security log in the Event Viewer the time appears to be dead on. The exact same time as the rest of the computers in the domain. In fact, everything appears to be running...
Hello,
At my workplace we have 3 domain controllers, all Windows 2003 SP1. Over the past couple days one of them had become unresponsive to remote desktop logins. The "incorrect password" message would appear when attempting to log in remotely. Trying different accounts did not seem to help...
