Well, I took ownership and then granted Read/Write permissions to FAMILYDESKTOP\Administrators.
I also checked my registry key values against those in the Win7 tables of MS KB886549
I un/re-installed Adobe Reader under the built-in Administrator and still got the same error.
Then I thought...
Karlis, wow, do I hope you're right! Last night I was doing something - that I thought was unrelated: I right-clicked on another program in the list of Add/Remove Programs - and chose "Change/Uninstall" - it thought for a while and then gave me the same awful 1606 error. And this program was...
How can I configure Norton so when I plug in a USB thumb/flash drive, it automatically begins a scan of the USB drive --- or at least the files that the user is attempting to open? I used to get an option to scan - now it doesn't even prompt me to scan at all.
How can I force a scan everytime...
It didn't work! I uninstalled:
Acrobat.com
Adobe AIR
Adobe Reader 9.3
under the Administrator account then reinstalled Adobe Reader. I then disabled the Administrator account and got the same error in another Windows account!
Honestly, I can use the alternate PDF reader...
Getting back to "ArizonaGeek"/Rob's suggestion...
I installed Adobe Reader with the Administrator account. When I went back into a different Windows account, though, and right-clicked on Adobe Reader in Add/Remove Programs and selected "Change" from the context menu, I got that same error as...
OK, didn't know that - thanks for the clarification! So after Adobe is working (hopefully!) can I then disable the Administrator account - or do I need to leave it enabled?
Rob, it sounds like you know what you're talking about!!! Hooray! :-)
I have a stand-alone (non-networked PC) and am running Home Premimum - so I think that part about Groups doesn't apply.
Is it the same thing if I create a brand new "Windows account" on my PC with admin rights and install...
When I put a checkmark in the "Run task only if the current device is attached", it is not saved - when I go to edit the task again, the checkbox is cleared. The other checkbox ("If missed, run the task when device is attached") remains checked.
Anyone else have this? Is there a way to get...
My wife is a not a techie but she (along with me) is an admin on our home PC. If my kids do "something" to get a UAC prompt, is there no way for her to know the effect of entering her password before she does so?! That seems bizarre! Isn't there some rule for allowing a program to run or...
Since I first posted, I got Norton Internet Security 2010. It says it guards against malware. Does it not do a good job so that secondary software (like MWB) is necessary?
If a non-admin user tries to access to which they do not have permissions they get a UAC popup prompting for an admin password. If an admin password is entered, my understanding is that they then permanently get rights to that folder.
What sort of permissions do they get: read, read-write...
Does this sound like an Adobe issue or a larger installer issue?
I've attached the three errors I get when trying to (right-click) "change" Adobe Reader from the Control Panel.
Thanks,
Eliezerhttp://www.mediafire.com/file/zkjh1z15yja/Three%20error%20messages.jpg
From reading online posts, I get the impression this "1606 error" is a problem that's bigger than Adobe Reader; it seems it indicates that the Microsoft installer is broken somehow. That has me especially concerned.
Like my subject line? Oops...
Thanks,
Eliezer
