If you format an empty cell with the custom format that you wish to use and then type in the date, it will appear in the correct format.

Thank you so much for your help. Zipping the file does work. KeyTech, in response to your question, we wish to send inspection reports electronically to a customer. This involves grouping several scanned documents within a labeled folder. Thanks again for your help.
