    Antivirus protection for SBS 2003

I'm setting up Small Business Server 2003 at the moment. Despite regular Server 2003 installations and upgrades, it's the first time I've set the latest SBS up. I'm considering using Symantec Antivirus SBE v9.0 to protect the server and 10 workstations, also for the first time. Does anyone...

Removing sober.j worm from mail server?

Hello! sober.j is getting past my McAfee Enterprise v8.0. I've used Stinger and that gets rid of 60%. netsky.p, zafi.b and mydoom.s are also getting through and can only delete the same percentage. The infected mailserver is running W2k server and ms exchange server 2000. Any idea, anyone...

    Drop in Google SERPs

Thanks Chris, I thought that was too good to be true.[sad] Now we reached the end of the beginning on my site, will I get less regular visits from the Googlebots? Regards, Mike http://www.abccomputersolutions.co.uk http://www.hamptoncarcentre.co.uk

    Drop in Google SERPs

Using the tips on this forum I've reached a few good positions on my main site. I was advised to be patient (thanks Chris) and sure enough two weeks ago to the day I started getting first page SERPs on Google. Since Friday (Google index Thursday evening): desktop pcs surrey - dropped from 1...

    Network overload

One of my clients is running a 50-user Windows 2000 network. They use Strucad, a structural engineering package, and an accounts package called SysPro running over MS SQL Server. In the afternoon, when the drawing office are backing up to server, Syspro slows right down and eventually crashes...

    Directories to avoid???

I've been getting regular visits from Googlebots on my five sites since 23 October (every 24 to 48 hours). Yesterday they all showed as being indexed on either 29 or 30 October. I've been playing around with keywords trying to manipulate the rankings, as they've virtually no links and all PR0...

    Host Server problems

Wullie, Thanks for explaining tracert in terms of a website, as I was comparing it to a closed network. Plus for noticing the RDNS. Regards, Mike http://www.abccomputersolutions.co.uk http://www.hamptoncarcentre.co.uk

    Host Server problems

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but I'm still new to this. However, if I do a tracert to troubleshoot a LAN or WAN and it fails to complete, I know I've got no network. Why, when I can't complete a tracert on my website, I can still get into the sites quickly, even on a freshly started...

    Host Server problems

Thanks Wullie, it did help, and thanks Dave for bringing it up in the first place. I've now emailed the host company. BTW, I've just been using a standard Windows TRACERT. Best regards, Mike http://www.abccomputersolutions.co.uk http://www.hamptoncarcentre.co.uk

    Host Server problems

Good idea - but even when it's working fine it gets to 16 hops then times out (even adjusting the time out). Mike http://www.abccomputersolutions.co.uk http://www.hamptoncarcentre.co.uk

    Host Server problems

Thanks Wullie. S**t happens and I'd hate anybody to be critical of my attempts to get a LAN or Intranet back up and running, especially when it was outside my control.[rednose] Mike http://www.abccomputersolutions.co.uk http://www.hamptoncarcentre.co.uk

    Host Server problems

Wullie, The reasons they gave me are listed in my last post, ie. a network routing problem with our uplink provider between Ireland and the UK... I would have to say I believe them as their mail servers were down at the same time. I know I'll get problems whether I'm paying £100 or £1000 a...

    Host Server problems

Further checks lead me to believe it went down at 1pm and was resolved EIGHT HOURS LATER! The standard reply I got to my email from Web-Hosting.UK was: Hi Due to reasons beyond our control, our system occured exceptional downtime this afternoon. We have discovered that there was a network...

    Host Server problems

Thanks Wullie, but definately not my ISPs. I run two networks here, one with Demon as ISP, the other with BT. It was only my web-hosting.uk sites down, I've got others hosted by pickaweb (I use for PHP). I find these guys brilliant and would recommend them to anyone. I think it was coincidence...

When the Bots arrive and your not home!!

For the past three nights my five sites have all been indexed by Google every night between 1 and 2am GMT. The servers for three of the sites have been down for since 2.30pm today. If I get another visit tonight and the sites are still down will they ignore it and retain the previous cache or...

    Host Server problems

Is it only me or is anyone else having server problems today? I use www.web-hosting.uk.com for 3 of my sites and although I find they go do down for about 30 - 60 minutes every few weeks, it's been down for five hours so far today? Using these guys for cheap ASP.NET hosting - maybe bad move...

    Directories to avoid???

I did install Google Toolbar on one PC but only did a search on one site. I found it picked up everything related to the site on that PC. Good for reviewing pop-ups on other sites, but felt it didn't reflect a true picture for my purposes. http://www.abccomputersolutions.co.uk...

    Directories to avoid???

***k it!! Checked three other sites (not submitted to any directories) and all five had been cached around 1.10am to 2.40am 23/10/04 GMT. One had absolutely no links from the submitted sites - so it was just conincidence. There goes a nice theory!! If site x had a link back to new site y and...

    Directories to avoid???

Thanks again Chris. BTW, your first reply to a thread of mine 3 weeks ago "search engine submission. waste of time. submit to directories. The SEs will find your site(s)" Had to wait until the sites were finished until using directories, but in Google cache within 8 hours of submitting them...
