Yes, these are eight-bit control characters, the equivalent 7 -bit control sequences ar: The OSC character is the 8-bit equivalent of the "ESC ]" sequence; the ST character is the 8-bit equivalent of "ESC \". Is this directly connected hardware only
In addition to NFS mounting (BTW, the syntax for an NFS volume is DNFSu:[dir...], not MACHINE::DUA0::[PATH]), You can NFS serve (export) the VMS volumes to other systems, and access it from the "other" side. If Your network side is Windows, there is SAMBA available for VMS, presenting the VMS...- JHuber

Extract Mail Attachment
VMS MAIL itself is text-only and does not handle attachments . However, there are many possibilities: Read mail through a webbrowser like Mozilla, or Extract/noheader to a temporary file, then: use the VMS MIME facility to unpack (see HELP MIME), or use the freeware MUNPACK utility.
